We are big tennis fans. My Munchkin is training and hopefully we can start some championship rounds. I was a superstar of a mom when I got courtesy tickets in exchange of my honest opinion to the ATP Worldwide Tour at Delray Beach February 13-22, 2015. Regardless of how big a fan you are, mark it in your calendar for next year. You have to go to The Delray Beach Open by The Venetian Las Vegas Tennis Tournament February 12-21, 2016. It is an event not to be missed.
We told you about it in our Valentine’s Gift Guide. Now we repeat ourselves. You can’t miss out on this event! The world’s only 10-day combined ATP World Tour & ATP Champions Tour event hosts over 50,000 spectators enjoying daily and nightly promotions, parties and amateur tennis events throughout the week. In addition to US Open Champions the Bryan Brothers and Marin Cilic, the tournament’s ATP World Tour field already includes world-ranked top-20 players Juan Martin Del Porto, John Isner, Kevin Anderson and Alexandr Dolgopolov. Yes, my munchkin was in heaven!
Under the amazing beautiful Florida Sunshine and upper 70’s weather, the match of the day we enjoyed the most was the singles final between Ivo Karlovic and Donald Young. The crowd was truly into the game and most cheered Donald on. The match had amazing points made, and its lows watching personalities flare and rackets fly when a player did not make the points. Good lessons in sportsmanship to our little one :-). Karlovic,36 dominated the exciting game and won by 6-3, 6-3 over the American to become the oldest winner in the Delray Open History! I was impressed by the 140 mph accurate serves and well placed strategical shots that made for nail-biting tennis fun.
It was also interesting to be so close up and personal almost for the trophy ceremony. We have been to the Miami Basketball Heat Championship games, but of course the setting is not as intimate as it was at the Delray Beach ATP Tournament.
Great food, drinks, and tennis vendors where at hand alongside the sponsor booth. There was a great atmosphere of camaraderie, sportsmanship and family fun. It all ran smoothly . It was all about the sport of tennis, but for my little one, being as much into tennis as well as cars and speed, Porsche made a memorable impression! I have thousands of photos seen through the eyes of my munchkin. Here is a taste of that:
Definitively, a great family outing filled with entertainment and good energy. We hope to enjoy it again and make it a family tradition. Go Tennis!
Have you been to any of the ATP championships as a spectator?

I have to admit I loved playing tennis when I was a child, but I’ve never managed to watch it – though I find the rhythm of the ball going back and forth is wonderful to sleep to, its a shame really. x

Ah, I’ve been to that facility, not for an Open, but I’ve been there. 🙂 Great restaurant up the ways a bit towards the beach we used to frequent after watching some tennis (or the cool ice cream place right there on the corner…not that I’m thinking of food or anything 😉 ).
coolmoms says
I love it Rosey! Next year we should watch matches together and hit your foodie places afterwards!
