This week we are celebrating America! We love the festivites, the BBqs and the fireworks! We can’t let the Fourth of July pass by without working on an easy and fun DIY to show our red, white and blue, in neutral colors this year. Our inspiration comes from our days at the beach. We are going nautical, natural and patriotic for this one. Our Fourth of July Beach Inspired Flag DIY brings the beach to your celebration!
This super easy craft will be done in under 10 minutes, and goes great on a mantel or as a patriotic welcome on your door. It is a lot of fun to make, and you will most likely have an item you will be happy to bring out year after year to celebrate America.
FOURTH OF JULY BEACH INSPIRED FLAG DIY
Depending upon how big your frame is, you will decide how many stripes and stars you want. The stars will be represented by the shells, and the stripes by the palm tree leaves.
Materials
- Empty frame
- Shells
- Palm tree leaves with end bark
- Glue gun
- Twain
- Drill
Procedure:
- First we prepare the leaves and shells to make it fast to put it all together:
-Use the end part of the palm tree leaf that was actually attached to the tree. Cut if off from the leaf. You can roll them or divide them in half depending on the final look you want to achieve for your stripes.
-Drill small wholes on your collected sea shells.
-As is you were threading a needle, use your twain to string the drilled shells. Make sure you leave enough twain on both ends of the string to tie this later into place.
- Get your frame and position your stars and stripes to make sure you are satisfied with the overall look
- Using your glue gun set each “stripe” into place. Don’t forget you will need a vertical one to mark the space for the “stars”
- Once the stripes are in place, tie the strings to your vertical limit and to the actual frame.
- Tip: You can go ahead and spay paint some of the stripes red to give your flag a pop
So what do you think about our eco-friendly upcycle of sorts project?

This is a cute one. Who would have thought those dried up palm leaves would make a flag?

Yes any shell will do! the thinner ons might crack when you use the drill but sometimes you can find shell with holes in them too to skip that step 🙂

Very cool, I wonder if I could make one with an Australian flag. OooHHH I could do all the countries I’ve ever been in a travel-inspired wall! Great idea 😀
