Last December we shared with you how our furry baby Sheba was doing great after adding a few kittens to our family. Soon the eldest kitten Little Minion bonded with grandma. She was ready to make him a part of her home. She didn’t really know where to begin, and asked us What To Get For A New Cat.
From our experience with cats, I put together a list of What To Get For A New Cat, and I think Little Minion and grandma were off to a great start with the list and their friendship.
Here is the tip list of What To Get For A New Cat ready for your to print out:
- The first thing to get is an appointment at the Vet. While this is not a tangible items for the cat, it is important make sure kitty is healthy and find out what it needs for a healthy life. i place this first on the list because it can be a couple of days before you actually go see the vet.So, make the appointment as soon as you can.
- Cat bed
- If your cat ever gets lost, make sure whoever finds it can bring it back to you. A Collar and ID tag are in order. There are plenty of fun and adorable collars to pick from.
- Let extra purring happen with yummy treats! Chicken Delightibles are american made gourmet cat & kitten treats that have a crispy outer shell and a soft center filled with antioxidants and natural flavors.
- Food and water bowls are very important. Also consider the place you will set them at, so that your cat always knows where food and water are. Cats do eat little amounts throughout the day, so having their bowls available makes them happy.
- Food
- Cat litter box. Just like with the food, cats are great animals of habit. Pick a place for the litter box and they will always go there.
- Cat litter.
- Cat pest control prevention (for cats 8 weeks or older to protect them against lice and fleas). We trust PetAction Plus for that because it keeps cats flea, lice and tick free. You can also download a $3 off coupon by visiting PetAction Plus.
- Keep the cats mentally and physically healthy as they play Make sure you get some cat toys.
- A great bonding experience that pampers your cat as you take care of their fur is brushing it 🙂 Get a Cat brush
- Prevent any furniture or curtain damages and get a scratching post or strip.
If you are adopting an older or grown cat, stick with food the cat is used to first to ease the transition. You can always switch to a higher-quality food, if needed. You might want to consider this as well for a favorite toy or bed.
Now that you have a new cat, well, congratulations on your meowing furry baby 🙂 Don’t for get to print your What To Get For A New Cat list from this link Things to get for your new cool cat by Cool Moms Cool Tips . to get all the basic needs for your new family member covered.

What a great list of items you will need for a new cat. I am allergic to them so I have never had a cat. I am not sure what else you might need.
Pam says
Your list covers just about everything! Since every cat is different, some of them may not like the bed and it may take a while to figure out which cat toys your cat prefers.

I love cats and would love to have one as a pet again. Unfortunately, we cannot due to my son’s allergies.

My daughter’s cat just moved in so this is really helpful. I’m still getting used to the idea of having a cat around!

My kids are on the fence about a cat or a dog. Im not an animal person – I have enough to take care of with kids 🙂

I’ve never used any type of product like this on my cats. They don’t go outside (and shouldn’t) so they aren’t exposed to fleas or lice.

This is a very helpful list! My daughter wants a cat, but with 3 dogs in the house, it just isn’t happening. I’m sure she’ll need to reference this list when she lives on her own because she’ll definitely be getting a cat then 🙂

Thanks for putting out an extensive list. I have never tried having a cat for a pet. I guess I really prefer dogs over cats. However, this post would be of great help to cat lovers out there.

How helpful! We’ve had cats my whole life. Our girl just had 2 kittens so we won’t be getting any new cats anytime soon. But this will help so many.

I love cats so much, though I don’t have any experience of having it at home. And the printable looks pretty good with some great tips for someone who would love to add a cat in their family.
