My heart is full knowing that the cool smart kids of Big Hero 6 are Back! Yes! lovable Baymax Returns in The Big Hero 6 Series on Disney XD. Balalalala! It was time for me to geek out big time watching a pre-screening of the one-hour TV movie “Baymax Returns”. That wasn’t all. Baymax Returns TV Movie and The Big Hero 6 Series on Disney XD
Save the date
Oh, please call me a geek because I want to live in San Fransokyo and register my kids at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology! I am so excited for MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EST). That is the date for the special one-hour primetime television movie, “Baymax Returns,” on Disney XD. It is the official kick-off for the Big Hero 6 The Series coming soon.
About Big Hero 6 Disney XD Series
The series takes off right where the movie left off three years ago. Hiro starts at geek school and begins work rebuilding Baymax. His overconfidence and Fred’s insistence paths the way for a new team of superheroes: Big Hero 6. Get ready for tons of adventure, action and good humor that will inspire STEM minds!
Big Hero 6 cool fact: Fred’s dad in the after-credit sequence of the TV movie is none other than Disney Legend Stan Lee!

Exclusive INTERVIEW WITH RYAN POTTER (VOICE OF “HIRO”) AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS MARK MCCORKLE, BOB SCHOOLEY AND NICK PHILIPPI
Why not another Big Hero 6 movie?
The big question: why a TV series and not another movie? Here are their thoughts on that:
Ryan Potter: “With the series, we could just have a lot more fun! Not to say we put less work into this because that’s not true at all”.
Bob Schooley: “We always encourage the actors, and especially when you’re adapting a movie. the actors know the characters better than we do coming in. So we let them take the lead on that to a big degree. I mean, Scott with Baymax, he has a very specific idea of what Baymax would and wouldn’t do, what he wouldn’t say. We never mind if an actor is like ah I don’t think that feels right for the character. It definitely keeps it with the continuity of the movie where the characters don’t feel like they’ve changed. They’re evolving over the course of the series, but we feel like they’re true to the movie”.
Mark Philippi added that the series allows for us to have more time discovering each of the characters of the team. Not just focus on Hiro and Baymax.
Big Hero 6 cool fact: the second season of Big Hero 6 is already in the works
The look and feel of Big Hero 6 the series
You will soon see that the drawing style of the series is a bit different from the movie. That is because the team went for a hand-drawn animation technique. Nick Philippi explains that they wanted to achieve a new look for the show where everything is recognizable but has a fresh approach to it. The warmth of the hand-drawn pencil lines are key for the series.
San Fransokyo is a character on its own
Bob Schooley explains that even though the city is the background to the story, it is a character on its own because of its beauty and personality. The mash-up between San Francisco and Tokyo is present in things like the Muirahara Woods: it combines Muir Woods and Tokyo’s Aokigahara Forest. Mark Philippi adds that it is a big city with not so good parts of town and beautiful places like where Hiro learned to ride his bike.
Will Baymax have a companion?
Will our health companion have a friend or will there be a female Baymax? Mark tells us anything is possible, but Ryan Potter got us thinking when he said: “Well, has it been established that Baymax is male? I think it’s, I get the voice is male, but I don’t think you’ve ever said he, but yeah, it’s possible”. Mark McKorkle added: “We do have a good mix with our villains on the gender front that we have a number of female villains as well”. At that point, Bob confirmed that they really have a good 50-50 male to female role ration in Big Hero 6.
Science, STEM and STEAM in Big Hero 6
It is geek school and there is science in the mix so will the series be too focused on it or is it just a backstory for entertainment? Mark McKorkle replied first: “As soon as Bob and I first saw the movie on our way out, Bob turned to me and goes, it’s so refreshing to see science being positive, or being portrayed in a positive way that’s not dystopian future or whatever, because when we grew up, science was, let’s get an astronaut to the moon, like it was about solving problems. It was about the future and reaching and striving and I feel like we kind of lost that a little bit. So for us, it’s nice that you have this group of kids that are all smart and being smart is cool. We did a specific story with Hiro, that Ryan did a great job on, where he suddenly looks around and goes boy, I gave everybody else a superpower, but I don’t have one. And he gives himself one and that’s the one where Stan Lee kind of gives him advice and he learns his superpower is his brain. Being smart is his superpower”.
