The beach called our name about a month a go, and we haven’t’ stopped going since! If you have been reading us, you know we are total beach bums. We never tire of it, and flock to it at every opportunity we have.
There is so much the beach can offer, and with kids, the possibilities are endless!
Yes, we can go lay out and work on our tan while we enjoy a fabulous book. That is easy. Most people associate the beach with this particular activity.
Here is our list of tips of what you can do the next time you visit the beach with the kids:
Here is our list of tips of what you can do the next time you visit the beach with the kids:
- Try some beach art: so besides becoming great architects of sand castles ( by the way, use only a little water to be able to build anything with sand), you can encourage little ones to express themselves drawing on the sand. Embellishments can easily be found using shells or sticks.
- I spy for critters: be on the look out for little crabs, birds, insects or even jelly fish. Just be careful with them, you don’t want them stinging you!
- Collect shells: go shell hunting! You can determine a specific color or shape to be on the look out for.
- Get some exercise done: if we go late afternoon to the beach, we love our little yoga routine, but if you are full of energy, chase each other, throw a Frisbee or swim
- Go green: a great opportunity to teach the little ones about conserving our planet by cleaning up plastic bottles or trash. Don’t forget to make sure you bring back any empty wrappers or garbage you might have.
Also, because we try going as much as we can, it has to be a grab and go kind of deal so this is our list of essentials for the beach:
- Sunscreen
- Hats and glasses
- Water
- Fruits (we freeze watermelon slices and grapes)
- Towels
- Beach chair
- Change for the parking meter
- Water shoes
If you can carry more stuff, then toys are great, but if not, you can get creative and make shells into shovels! Keep in mind we have our bag always ready to go. All we have to add is the fruit and water and off to the beach we are!
What other activities do you do with your children at the beach? Do you have more tips for us? We would love to read you!
Happy Summer everyone.

love these tips, wow you guys really found some strange looking critters and that crab is very big!!!! Love how you incorportate being green teaching for the children and lead the way of conserving our beaches. An additional tip for you, take paper for the kids to paint the scenery they see
My boys favorite thing to do at the beach when we go is look for and collect crabs – mostly hermit crabs, but they will take the regular ones if they find them.
I love going to the beach since I grew up in a fishing town in Spain and I spent every single day at the beach practically. There are so many activities for children and families there.
Growing up in Toronto Ontario Canada there is a beach that I lived near most of my life called the Beaches or The Beaches depends on who you ask there’s a debate about it I loved going to the beach my best memories are there. I also love going to the Beaches in Michigan as well. I dream of beaches all the time. When I went the lotto I’m going to buy a beach house.
Awesome ideas for fun at the beach. I’ve always wanted to make sand castles but they seem so difficult but it’s fun to try especially as a family. I like to look for sea shells and unique rocks.
The beach really does lend itself to (fun) exercise. And it’s great too because when you get tuckered out you recline in your beach chair and life continues to be gooooooooooood. 🙂
My boys and I like to walk to the title pools and look for tiny crabs and snails. There is something about digging holes at the beach! They love to dig big holes and trenches. 🙂
I saw something on Pinterest, I think, about each child keeping a beach bag ready. That way, you can say, “Let’s go to the beach!” and all everyone has to do is grab their bag! (Already has the suits and everything in it!)
Those are some great tips. I can’t wait for it to warm up enough for us to hit the beach.
My kids make up all sorts of games at the beach and especially in the water. I just can’t wait for it to be warm enough for us to go!
We used to look for different shells and beach critters! This is a great post.
Great list. I’m not one to sit still so these tips are great!
Great list my son favorite thing to do is shell hunt.
When we lived in Florida, I used to keep our beach things in the car and just remove them if I needed the space. It made for an easy trip out after a long day of work!
Sunscreen is so important! A must have for every single day!
Great ideas! I love beach art and my kiddos do, too!
Im so excited to bring my kiddos to the beach! We are going to have so much fun!
What a great list of things to do at the beach! We love getting all artistic with the sand too. We also like to watch the surfers, dolphins & manatees.
Sandbuckets and sand tools are a must on our family beach trips. That at of course, sunscreen!
I love hunt for seashells & finding “the one” to bring home. Beach outings are my fave 🙂
One of my favorite things to do while on the beach is hunt for shells. This usually leads to finding some cool animals also.
I have always loved walking along the beach and collecting shells! My daughter and I have done that together many times.
