There is so much to do now that spring is here and summer around the corner! Soon our soccer little league, baseball practice and swimming fun will be in full force. In addition to that we will be exploring as much as we can, and being the beach bums that we are. We shared with you already our tips on what to do at the beach with the kids. Today we offer our tips on Tips on How to Keep Small Athletes Hydrated. Truth be told these tips apply to all active kids.
We all know water is an important component of our bodies. It is also a nutrient, and despite having no calories, no one can live without water. It is becomes more important if we lead an active lifestyle, if we live in warmer climates, or as our bodies adapt to the rise in temperature. What is water’s primary function? It regulates our body temperature, and it prevents our bodies from over heating. How thirsty we are is not an indication of how much fluid we need to intake. If you factor in that little people may not worry about the importance of water as much as the importance of play and activity. Specially focused athletes intent on scoring or learning the latest technique don’t relent. So, consider this list of suggestions to maintain active children hydrated:
- Keep bottles of Nestlé® Pure Life® handy. I have them in my purse, refrigerator, car and the the kid’s sport’s bag.
- There is nothing like drinking from you own water bottle, not to mention a great way to avoid bottle mix ups. Consider getting each child a personalized water bottle
- Offer water before and after physical activities
- Make sure water is within small people reach: store it at their hand level in your fridge or pantry
- Think size: little hands and little tummies will be more prone to grab a smaller bottle, plus those are easier to carry around too.
- Make sure there is water available during practice break
We all need at least eight 8oz glasses of water per day. How do you make sure kids are getting their required share of water?
- Serve water with snacks
- Like we mentioned before offer water before and after physical activities, and in between them
- Drink water with your meals
- Include fruits veggies, yogurt and cooked beans among others in your diet as these foods help keep hydrated while delivering essential nutrients.
Our final recommendation is to find ways to make hydration fun. How about creating a chart to keep track of water consumption? The person that keeps on track the most gets a reward. I am definitively stocking up on my Nestlé® Pure Life® water bottles this spring and summer. #sponsored #HealthyHydratedHappy
