El 20 de Julio – July 20th

July is a month when we fervently celebrate and affirm our feeling of independence. We have a double celebration in July, one is our traditional BBQ and Firework display for the Fourth of July, and  the other  occasion is on July 20th when we commemorate Colombia’s independence day.  You have been reading us for a while, and know that we do not let any celebration escape us!  So after wishing America a Happy Birthday, preparation are under way to raise a glass to July 20th, 1810 when the Spanish colony declares its independence.  Oh and yes, our Furry baby is helping out. Our Artistic Pooch Colors Our Celebrations.  We need to ensure our watercolor master remains focused so we give him Beneful which is made with real meat!

A Family Affair

Our celebration is definitively a collaborative effort.  Women take charge of the kitchen,  men take over the drinks and set up for a soccer match viewing, and the kids usually put on a show that closes with everyone dancing to the rhythm of our beloved cumbia.

Everyone has a role, except our pooch Nano.  For this show, the children work their costumes and decorations which we proudly display for days after the festivities.  My son pointed out that Nano never had anything to display, and it was time for a change since everyone in our family has to partake, furry or not.

So we set out to have Nanito help out with the decorations.  What I love about this is that my son is right!  We constantly display our kid’s artwork in it’s place of honor, and we had never thought of including Nano.  Nano could turn out to be our very own Picasso or Fernando Botero!  My plan was not only to get Nano painting, but also to proudly feature his work at home.  The kids were joyous about the idea.  I am choosing my favorite of his creations to exhibit in our home.

As we enjoy empanadas and arepas on Colombia’s independence day, Nano will have his very own bowl of Beneful Incredibites. In this case it will be chicken which is his favorite, and our choice to keeping him healthy and strong, which by the way, I got at Target where I also got a fabulous bow-tie for him.  I do find stylish accessories and adorable toys at Target for our pets every time I go get Nano’s Beneful Incredibites, our choice for him because it is a powerful combination of all the nutrition of real wholesome ingredients he needs and taste that he loves.   We can never go wrong with a brand that is 100% complete and balanced like Beneful.  Personally, I love that this dog food is specifically intended for small dogs, so in every meal Nano gets protein rich crunchy mini bites  that are perfect for his size.  Nothing but the best for our cuadrupedo (four-legged) family member!

I love it when artists collaborate, so I have chosen the rendering of the Colombian flag by our youngest and Nano to frame and hang at home.  What do you think of it? Have you discovered your pet’s artistic side yet?

Messes like that give me anxiety, so paints are actually banned in my house πŸ™‚ I love what your dog created, though πŸ™‚

I also hate messes…LOL! When our daughter was a toddler she went through the paint stage and I was cleaning up all day. Creative dog though.

I hear you! I had a crazy idea of paint and baby on diapers alone….. But this time is was not as messy as I anticipated. Our doggy was quite clean for a watercolor master πŸ™‚

AWESOME artist you have at home. I love the idea of using water colors to let the kids and their furry buddies enjoy an afternoon of painting, specially if it is outside. πŸ™‚ I cannot wait to meet Nano, thanks for sharing your post with us.

Soon to be in a gallery in NYC – doggie art! πŸ˜€ I love the idea and I will have my little Chispas create his own masterpiece. Although I doubt he’ll be as neat as your pup.. I foresee a little colored paw trail on the garage floor.
