Our Hearts Love Good Food

The old saying latin saying that translate into ” love enters via the mouth” truly resonates at home.  We love to enjoy a good meal together, and we are aware that the right ingredients can lead to a healthy life.  Particularly, I knew that eating fish like salmon helps reduce the risk of heart issues thanks to omega-3 fatty acids.

I was curious about which other food items would contribute to good heart health.  BJ’s Wholesale educated me and taught me to look for red pink and purple produce.  I did, and came up with a delicious Red Potatoes and Beets Roast side dish to complement the fabulous Pecan & Cranberry-Crusted Salmon with cran-apple drizzle recipe BJ’s provided us with.

Heart-Healthy Red Potatoes Roast & Beets Roast

Both recipes are extremely easy and utterly delectable.  Let’s start by giving you the Red Potatoes & Beets Roast recipe:

[yumprint-recipe id=’22’] We can’t rave enough about the Pecan & Cranberry-Crusted Salmon with cran-apple drizzle recipe.  The flavor combination is the perfect mix of sweet, savory and tangy.  It is a must try.  You heart and family will thank you for it!

I definitely want to try that Red Potatoes & Beets Roast-it sounds delicious! I will skip the salmon–the only way I will eat it is if it is in LOX form!! I do try to eat heart healthy. Being diabetic it is even more important that I eat healthy low carb foods which most-but not all heart healthy foods are.

My kids eat all sorts of vegetables but they love it when I make “burnt salad”…roasted vegetables. They fight over who gets to finish it. I never make fish, but my husband does. I’ll have to show him this.

I love beats… love them! Normally I juice them so roasting them would be an interesting twist on a family favourite.
Honestly, I didn’t even think you could roast them. Learned something new 🙂

Ok, this needs to be on menu (or realistically in my belly) right now. Your presentation of the potatoes and beets was really beautiful. I love beets and make them all the time. One tip: use gloves or put your hands in plastic baggies when cutting them, those suckers stain!

These recipes look good. However, they are something we eat. The fish recipe sounds good, I’m just not a huge fan of frozen fish.

Is it terrible that I’ve never eaten beats? I do however love red skin potatoes, we just had some this week. What I didn’t know is that they are good for my heart. I also didn’t know I should be checking for pink, red & purple in the produce section. Great information.
