Tips to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Ok so here is how I have been able to have a healthier lifestyle and stick to it:

  1. Don’t diet: I don’t diet.  I make intelligent ingredient and meal choices with health in mind.  For example, I have switched honey for sugar.
  2. Exercise regularly.  I used to be a weekend warrior.  While this kept me fit, it was not the healthiest option for me.  Instead, now I exercise for at least 20 minutes everyday.
  3. Take full advantage of your health plan:  This might come as a surprise to you, but think about it.  You are already paying for it, why not benefit your health further with it? tips to be healthier

I must confess in the past I would not visit a health professional unless I was utterly sick out of ignorance.  I was so bad, I even skipped it all and went directly to the ER for medical help.  There really is no need for that.  There are far easier ways offered by our plans.  But I am being honest, I was intimidated by the lingo and never bothered.  Silly, I  now know since it can be so easy to understand when you have a great guide to support you.   Knowledge is power and key to keep me and my family healthy, and small steps put us all in the right direction.  So let’s plunge into it.  Guess what?  there is a simple and fun way to get this done.  By answering a simple and quick quiz on United Healthcare’s website, I clearly understood everything related to managing healthcare costs.sample quizz question united healthcare cool moms cool tips #ad

I know, I know, as parents we lead extremely busy lives and sometimes we need 48 hours in a day.  This quiz didn’t take me more than 5 minutes to answers, and the takeaway is invaluable in taking full advantage of what we already pay for.  Honestly, I had fun answering the quiz questions and looked forward to verifying my answers.  I was pumped and armed with valuable information, so I jumped at the next fun opportunity to learn more.  Yes, I played a concentration game to help me further understand the UnitedHealthcare tools.  Need a little incentive?  How about  the possibility to win a $400 Visa gift card grand prize and weekly $25 gift cards?  That is your reward for playing!

I am shocked by how little people actually know about their health plan. Unfortunately, we know way too much since we have a sick kid.

These are good tips! I agree with not dieting, though sometimes if I want to drop a few, I just cut out sugar for a little while and it boosts my metabolism immediately. I am a sugarholic, so that’s tough for me!

Same here Esther. But I find that it is not cutting it out completely that helps me, it is being moderate.

I’ve been trying to exercise regularly. Even just brisk walking a few times a day counts and that’s what I’ve been doing. With some music, it goes pretty quickly!

I love your advice to stop dieting. It’s true! I eat meat only Friday-Sunday, and all my dishes have some balance of protein, fat, and carbs. I try to make half of my plate some type of vegetable mix, and voila. It’s the simplest way to eat healthy, in my opinion. It just comes down to buying healthy ingredients and taking the time to fix a plate! Great advice. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I’m gonna go review my health plan!

I’ve been the same way – not getting regular check-ups, but only seeing the doctor when absolutely necessary. I’ve only recently started making regular appointments (must have been my age creeping up on me). Great tips!
