We take all reasons to celebrate very seriously, and today is no exception. It is National Pet Day! Yay for all of our pets and all the animal families out there!! Have you made plans for mark the day? We are celebrating along with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment who bring us soon The Secret Life of Pets by sharing our Tips for a Doggy PlayDate.
DOG PLAY DATE TIPS
Choose the right playmate: In our case our older dog will stand a puppy for 5 minutes tops. Nano is not interested in catching frisbees as much as he did, so we have to find a friend who won’t be eager to chase a ball for hours. Thing about your dog’s personality and try to find a match for it.
Where to hold the play date: Your home is a good option depending on what you plan on doing and the space you need for that. Otherwise, consider dog parks, dog beaches, a hiking trail or a dog daycare.
What you need: There are a few things that do get most dogs happy to have handy:
- Toys: While at any age dogs like toys, don’t bring along Fido’s favorite. Those are not easily shared always. Again take into consideration what you have planned to do. Balls, chew toys and things to tug on are usually welcomed.
- Water: Remember to always keep pooches hydrated
- Snacks: Who doesn’t like a treat? Find out if the playmate has any allergies or restrictions. Treats will help qualm rowdiness and keep everyone happy.
Size and gender: Often dogs play nicer when they are of the opposite sex. Also, consider size. Your Great Dane might play well with a Tea Cup Yorkie, but the Yorkie could get frustrated at not being able to do the same things the Dane can in terms of speed and ease.
