Last weekend we were speaking whale non-stop to mark #SpeakLikeAWhaleDay in anticipation of Finding Dory hitting theaters everywhere this June 17th. As big fans of everything beach sea, ocean and Finding Nemo, we were counting down to Finding Dory. Now, following Award-winning Finding Nemo means to us that Finding Dory has to be AMAZING, especially after having to wait 13 years for it 🙂 Now that we have seen Finding Dory, we can tell you, it surpassed all of our expectations and we LOVE #FindingDoryEvent. Go get your tickets to take your family to see it. This is our Finding Dory Movie Review and Aquarium DIY
Finding Dory Aquarium DIY
We had so much fun doing this DIY. The conversation on family, friendship and ocean conservation flowed effortlessly with our 5, 6, and 8-year-old helping hands. We had a blast! Here are all the details on how we make our Finding Dory Monterrey Aquarium of sorts:
Materials
- smooth rocks
- paint
- paint brushes
- shells
- coconut
- glue gun
- pencil
- black marker
Procedure:
- Wash the rocks and coconut
- I used a pencil to trace out Dory, Nemo, and Marvin for the kids on the rocks.
- Paint in the traced fish
- Paint the shells, these will be the fins and fish tails. Use smaller shells as fins.
- Leave the rocks and shells to dry
- Use blue and green to paint one surface side of the coconut, this will serve as your ocean or aquarium.
- Set aside to dry
- Use your marker to do the clownfish black stripes
- Once shells and rock paint is dry, use the glue gun to put together your fish.
- Now that your fish are ready, glue gun them onto the painted coconut surface
Celebrating Finding Dory and Conservancy
We couldn’t just tell you we love Finding Dory and run. We wanted to share with you our Finding Dory DIY too. This is a simple and fun craft that the entire family can participate in. It is also a perfect moment to talk to the kids about ocean conservancy and go over all the values that the movie keeps swimming on. Talk family, friendship, perseverance, raising above weaknesses, focussing on the positives just to mention a few of the fantastic lessons of Finding Dory. With a few materials and some helping hands, you can have your very own Finding Dory Aquarium in a few hours. We now have plans of adding to our aquarium a parrot fish, Destiny the Whale and a dolphin fish. We need bigger coconuts!
About Finding Dory
Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” reunites everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale?
