Yes!!! I checked off an item from my bucket list in the Dominican Republic! I am overjoyed with my Surfing in the Dominican Republic-Unforgettable Cabarete moment. I can’t believe I did it!! As you know, this island nation that has captivated my heart. Its beauty is unparalleled. Its friendly people always offer a smile and warm friendship. The food is a culinary expedition and it caters to every type of traveler. Nestled in the Caribbean blessed by mountain, sea and everything in between, I hold it closer to my heart thanks to my most recent family trip to discover Puerto Plata. Can you say welcome to paradise?
Unforgettable Experiences in Cabarete Like Surfing!
While the list of interesting, fun and exciting things to do in Cabarete is extensive, I want to share with you a couple of things that we would do over and over again in a heartbeat in this eclectic town. 
The natural wonder you will encounter in this area of the Dominican Republic is beyond inspiring and breathtaking. As for experiences, surfing and visiting caves top our list. Our cave expedition is coming soon, so stay tuned.
Surfing in The Dominican Republic
Being a beach small city, you will find every kind of water activity. We tried out surfing for the first time ever as a family. One word: FANTASTIC! Masters of the Ocean are the surfing hut were we welcomed with broad smiles for our first official experience on a long board.
We went into the hut and looked for the perfect water shoes for each of us. Once that was done we walked out for land instructions on what to expect, and a concise lesson on the different movements we were to take on the board and when to do them once in the water. After a few repetitions, we were declared ready and took to the water along with the surf boards. I can’t tell you how excited we all were. We felt so confident and ready to ride the waves!!!
Putting into action the instructions given before we hit the water worked surprisingly well. As a matter of fact, I couldn’t believe that on the second attempt I was already actually surfing! Amazing as it all was, it is a grueling exercise that had me soon laying out on the beach as the kids rode wave after wave after wave. But I did it!!! WOW!!!!
Making Music and Friends While Learning to Surf
Exhilarating, fulfilling and so much fun, we couldn’t be more grateful for the expert teachers we had. They were very patient and encouraging. Before long, we were celebrating and becoming fast friends with David and Jerry as their shared more of their fabulous talents:
I get a smile every time I watch his improvised music. He sings about me having a blog although I look like a doctor, and how he knows he will see us again next year because we loved surfing with them so much. Fingers crossed his wish for us comes true before a year! I just wish we were at that beautiful strip of beach again, lounging, surfing and sharing good times with our friends. We can’t recommend them enough.
