With so much outdoor activity going on this summer, we sit down at dinner every night to hear about everyone’s adventures. Truth be told, I enjoy this ritual much more when we don’t dirty the kitchen, so last week in line with the summer grilling flavors of the season we went for some wood fired food at our neighborhood grill and bar. What a fabulous idea it turned out to be! Friends, it is time to Wood-Fire Sizzle Your Family Dinner Outing!
Our Wood-Fire Sizzle Family Dinner
I had never been to Applebees before, and I must say how impressed I am with EVERY single aspect of our dining experience! I know, I used to live under a rock, that is why I am very grateful that we were invited to try out their new menu of hand-cut wood-fired dishes. There is no doubt we had a very fulfilling dinner.
For starters, the welcome was warm and very courteous at the front desk. Promptly and with no delay my hungry family was seated and taken care off by a very polite and knowledgeable waitress who quickly tended to our thirst quenching needs. When she came back to us, I was taken by how intimate she was with the menu. With so many mouthwatering options like:
- 8 oz. and 6 oz. Hand-cut USDA Choice Top Sirloin Steaks
- Hand-cut Bone-in Pork Chops with Honey Apple Chutney
- Cedar-grilled Salmon with Maple Mustard Glaze
- Grilled chicken breast
I do have to point out that Applebee’s new hand-cut wood fired offerings, including USDA Choice Top Sirloin Steaks, Bone-in Pork Chops and Cedar-grilled Salmon, are completely unique and new menu items for Applebee’s. Not only that, but the new certified USDA Choice Hand-Cut Wood Fired Steaks and Bone-In Pork Chops are hand-cut by trained meat cutters through a comprehensive process to ensure the highest quality, freshness and optimal thickness. There is a science behind this fantastic new menu!
Our Applebees Dinner
She helped us make the best choices for our preferences. So much so, that she even offered suggestions as to what we should each order so we could indulge in a bite from each others’ plates! Andrea was truly amazing with her service and attention to detail. We did start off with great appetizers: the Siracha Shrimp and the Grilled Chicken Wonton Tacos
Before long, our appetizing meal arrived filling the air with exquisite enticing American Oak aromas. I had the double-glazed baby back ribs in Asian spice sauce which were just heaven to my taste buds. It was accompanied by crunchy green beans and a sensational sweet potato mash topped with pecans. Oh yes, you must try this fabulous side dish out!
Sr. Cool let me have a bit of his scrumptious and made perfectly to his liking top sirloin. He paired his steak with yummy mashed potatoes that were better than homemade.
Technology At Applebees to Enhance Our Dinning Experience
Our little man went for grilled burger sliders which managed to keep him silent for a good 10 minutes! He was over excited to be at the restaurant, no only because he felt so welcomed and at home. He was also being spoiled by the staff and the technology at the restaurant. I was taken by a mini tablet placed at each table. These tablets have games for purchase, but also dub as a menu and as a server. You can order your meal on it, or you can summon your waitress (er).
As you can imagine, our little man tested it over and over again. I loved how fast Andrea appeared when we hit the “call server” button. I did ask her how she felt about guests using the tablet because I felt somewhat guilty of pressing a button and not trying to catch her eye. She shared that it was a great help because when she was way busy, guests could go ahead and request what they wanted without having to delay their wishes. At the same time, she was aware at all times of what each table was ordering via the tablet thanks to a few not so visible monitors throughout the restaurant. Also, she pointed out how when a table called for the server, everyone was alerted to it, so her co-workers would flag her down to cut down the wait time of server-to-table.
No dinner is complete without dessert and so I went for it. The cookie ice cream was decadent and hit the spot.
We can’t rave enough about Applebees, their impeccable restaurant, service, and their flavorsome wood-fired menu which definitively highlights elevated quality and fresh flavors in every dish. Oh and keep this in mind: the wood fired grills at Applebees use American Oak to lend a great smoky flavor to its menu items that are cooked on the grill.
