This is part of a sponsored collaboration with DiMeMedia and Disney Channel. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
We are overjoyed with the arrival of Elena of Avalor to the Disney Channel! Our premiere viewing was a total success because Elena embodies all that Latinas know we are, and has the power of encouraging to reach for the good in all of us with charm and grace. This first Latina princess is making big waves in our universe, and we can’t wait to see much more of here. Welcome, Elena of Avalor! We are happy you are finally here!
Welcome Elena of Avalor: A Royal Celebration with Latin Flare
We are beyond ourselves to have partnered with Disney. As you know from our excitement unboxing a party kit for Elena of Avalor, and received tons of materials to create fun and royal crafts Avalor inspired. Princess cool helped me with the setup, and in no time we were ready to welcome our royal guests.
Our celebration started with crafting time. I must say that from all the goodies in the box, the highlights were the Elena of Avalor runner to color in and the tattoos. Nevertheless, my favorite was putting together the cool Jaquins.
As we worked, we shared some salsa and tortilla chips, chicken flautas and Madelenas which are cupcake like sweet treats with no frosting. Those Madelenas seriously took me back to my abuela’s kitchen! For once though, the focus was not the food. All the excitement was focussed on the colorful Elena of Avalor. I loved that the guests started to discuss what Elena would be like. Some said she must be polite because all princesses were. Someone else chipped in that she seemed like she would be a good friend. Speculation was truly alive and anticipation was palpable in the air!
All the fun crafting and coloring was key to help time pass by quickly. Before we knew it, we barely had time to hang on to our crowns and run in to watch the Elena of Avalor premiere on the Disney Channel! The moment the show begun, my rowdy crowd of opinionated princesses was quiet as could be. Everyone was engrossed on Elena’s adventures and discovering who she is. After two beautiful value-filled episodes, we were all left wanting more, and giving theshow our favorite cheer: a la bio, a la bao, a la bim bom bao!!! Elena, Elena, rra, rra, rraaaaaaaaaaaa! I know I totally failed not filming this spontaneous moment.
What We Love Of Elena of Avalor
She is determined, brave, adventurous, and we love all that. She already embodies an amazing Latina we can relate to. Additionally, she brings with her some important traits that everyone wants to emulate.
What my princesses saw in Elena
This girl generation that we are educating right now never ceases to amaze me. As I asked my princess guests what they thought about the show, they immediately assessed her role as a leader. I confess I was taken by surprise.
“Elena was smart in choosing people that know to help her.” said Victoria. Dany pointed out how Elena changed her mind about being a queen until she learned more. Juli then added, ” I like that she was always nice, even when she realized she was wrong.” I think these girls address qualities that we seek in our leaders grace (especially under pressure), humility, the ability to create and maintain a good team, and striving to be better always. This is just to name a few because she is caring, a hard worker and kind too.
Bottom line, “I want to be like Elena when she ….” The kids filled in the blank with:
- When she is looking for help
- When she tries to keep her promises
- When she is nice with everyone
And that was what I enjoyed most. The kids do have a great role model in Elena of Avalor
Elena takes us on a Latin Trip
Because I am constantly on the look out to share about traditions and customs from other cultures, I love the way the Elena of Avalor show shares about Hispanic culture in general. All of the countries are represented in one way or another. Take for example music. So far we heard salsa, merengue and ballads. Be on the look out for myths, architecture, outfits, customs and food.
The first episode featured a Chilean myth -peuchen myth. A little birdie in an interview (Aimee Carrero, the voice of Elena of Avalor) shared that she is learning herself of the diverse richness of the latin countries. I just can wait to learn more about the other Hispanic cultures with the help of Elena of Avalor.
