This time around, my sister is hosting Thanksgiving. All she had in her heart to have is a pumpkin patch to decorate for fall. There was a caveat, she did not want real pumpkins. We were pressed for time, and of course, like everything around here at Cool Moms Cool Tips, it had to be easy and quick to finish. Especially because we were making a patch. The translation for that is at least 10 pumpkins were needed. After staring for a bit at my crafting bins, I came up with a Pumpkin Patch Made Out of Paper Lanterns DIY.
How To Make a Pumpkin Paper Lanterns DIY.
To start off, you will need lanterns of different sizes and different shades of orange. Once you have that, everything else is pretty much assembling. Before long you will have a robust pumpkin patch! Here is how we made them:
Materials:
1 Orange paper lantern
6 Paper leaves per lantern
4 Green pipe cleaners
1 Pumpkin Stem
Glue gun
Procedure:
- First thing to do is attach the stem to the lantern. Do it using the metallic insides of the lantern to help support. The glue gun will affix properly the stem on the lantern for you
- Next, use twist and turn the pipe cleaners to make them into the pumpkin vines. Then twist one end of them to the same metallic inside skeleton of the pumpkin you used for the stem.
- Finally, glue the paper leaves around the lantern opening and cover it.
I think the pumpkins might look better with with less paper leaves but my sister is crazy about the “foliage” so they are staying A like this 🙂
A word on the pumpkin stem
We made the stems before hand. These are newspapers folded in the shape of a pumpkin stem. Once more or less satisfied with the shape we then proceeded to wrap each “stem” with green floral tape.
Time to Celebrate and Decorate!
More than decorate with the pumpkin patch, she is hoping to use our patch as the background or setting for a session of family photos. I think the idea is great and will great props for the photos too.
Are you planning any special decorative ideas this fall? How about Thanksgiving, any special decor for any new traditions or family activities?
