If there is a collection that I absolutely love is the short films of Disney. Remember “I Lava You”? Or what about “Sanjay’s Super Team“? I sure fell hard for both of these. Not only are they beautiful productions full of impossibly amazing creativity, but also beautiful art forms that deliver powerful storytelling. In the case of both of these shorts, they also speak volumes about culture and have awaken my further my curiosity. To add to the ranks of “La Luna” and “Piper”, Disney and Pixar Introduce us to Lou.
Disney and Pixar Introduce us to Lou
Having been closer to Sanjay’s Super Team during my “The Good Dino” press trip, I can’t get enough learning about the behind the scenes and creative thought process that entails bringing to life these short films. The Disney Social Media Moms Conference this year had that surprise for all attendees. While unfortunately, I missed that part of the itinerary, I gather from the reaction of my fellow Disney Mom’s aboard the Disney Wonder that it was difficult to find a dry eye in the audience. Can you imagine how powerful this short has to be if it manages to pull hard on our heart strings in 6 minutes?
Director Dave Mullins Shares About Lou
Director Dave Mullins was at hand during Disney Social Media Mom’s Conference to share how he poured his heart and soul into “Lou”. He certainly blew attendees away as my friend Candy from Candypooloza.com shared with me. The takeaway from listening to Mr. Mullins was “Never stop working on your story”. I learned from Candy that Lou is in fact based and inspired on Mr. Mullin’s childhood experiences with moving as a kid. “Lou” apparently addresses bullying in an unexpected way.
About Lou
Lou tells the story of what happens when a toy stealing bully ruins recess for a playground full of kids, only one thing stands in his way: the “Lost and Found” box.
The short can only be seen in front of Cars 3 this summer. So be ready for Cars 3 and Lou on June 17, 2017
Fun facts about Lou
Here are a few fun facts about Lou that got me very excited:
- The animators took characters from Inside Out and reworked them for the short film.
- J.J. who is the main character was in Riley’s classroom!
- As a matter of fact the name of the main character is a nod to the director’s mom who’s name is Joyce Jean.
- The composer of Frozen also wrote a score for Lou
- Also, be on the lookout for Easter Eggs in the film!
The summer can’t come soon enough for us to enjoy Lou! Do you like the Disney-Pixar shorts? Which is your favorite?
