Fireworks, great BBQs, perhaps some patriotic destinations and delicious Patriotic Pretzel Almond Bark and decorations make the Fourth of July the holiday of summer! We love our watermelon eating contests, splish-splashing in the sea and watching our local parade. Our favorite Fourth of July parade will have some additional fun among the parade watchers. We are going to cheer those walking the parade with Cool Fourth of July Wands!
Cool Fourth of July Wands DIY
These Cool Fourth of July wands will add a festive touch to any patriotic holiday. I must admit that the inspiration for these wands was a failed attempt at making cheerleading pom-poms. It was my little princess’ idea to have something to take to the parade. She envisioned the light-up toys that we use at Disney, but since this parade is at 10 am, lights would be useless. She suggested pom-poms and I ended up with a princess’ red, white and blue wand. She is still happy 🙂
Materials:
- Ribbon strands. We used fabric and paper ones so we could give more volume to the wand
- A thin stick. I used thin bamboo sticks to prevent any splinter related issues
- Double-sided tape
- Small rubber band
Procedure:
- Wrap a piece of double-sided tape to one of the ends of your stick
- Affix as many ribbon strands to the tape as you can
- Layer over another piece of double sided tape over the ribbon you just placed and repeat the process as many times as needed.
- Once you have achieved the thickness you desire, use the rubber band to help keep all the ribbons in place
- Shake to ensure stability and get ready to wave your wands!
Cool mom tip: you can use a glue gun instead of double sided tape. I didn’t because my princess was helping make them.
