No visit to San Francisco is complete with out seeing the Golden Gate and stepping into the Walt Disney Family Museum! A visit to the Walt Disney Family Museum is a unique opportunity. That is because you can immerse yourself in the history of how the magic of all things Disney begun. It is not only about an amazing man, but also about drive, vision, innovation, and passion at this museum. When you experience the museum you leave inspired and uplifted! Earlier this month I visited the museum. I had been struck by the process to create the beautiful classic Pinocchio via The Art of Pinocchio Exhibit. This time around I was in awe of the villains displayed. I am talking about the Deja View: The Art of Andreas Deja Exhibit at the Walt Disney Family Museum.
The Deja View: The Art of Andreas Deja Exhibit at the Walt Disney Family Museum In Time to Mark The Lion King on Blu-ray
Inspired by the Jungle Book to become an animator at 10 in Germany, Andreas Deja was part of the Disney team at age 20. He is the man behind a few Disney villain like Gaspar, Jafar and my favorite: Scar. The exhibit fabulously allows us to get to know the art and a bit of the man behind this crucial character from The Lion King in time for the blu-ray release of the movie! Here are some of the highlights.
Cool Disney fact: Andreas Deja joined the ranks of Disney Legends at the D23 Expo 2015.
Andreas Deja Exhibit Features The Lion King’s Scar
The Art of Andreas Deja Exhibit is rich with the powerful artwork of Deja via different art forms. For example, my favorite Scar piece: a sculpture of the lion. The details of it, the rib cage, and the expression of the eyes and the movement of the mane are breathtaking. It made me think back to all the ego, fury and ruthlessness of Scar putting in motion his wish to rule the pride.
The pencil and ink drawings are just as remarkable, don’t you agree?
Andreas Deja and The Lion King’s Thought Process
With his paintings and sketches, we get a chance to see Andreas Deja’s thought process for The Lion King and Scar:
Andreas Deja Beyond The Lion King
The Andreas Deja Disney Characters
Besides being multi-talented in several art forms, Andreas Deja is also multifaceted in his characters. We told you about working villains like Gaston from Beaty and the Beast and Jafar from Aladdin, Queen Narissa from Enchanted as well as Scar from the Lion King. But his characters also include the protagonist of Hercules, Lilo from Lilo and Stich, King Triton from the little Mermaid, Mama Odie in The Princess and the Frog and Tiger in Winnie the Pooh.
Andreas Deja and Mishka
This man is truly versatile and talented with the different art forms! I was captivated by his watercolor rendering of lions which made me think of The Lion King’s Sarabi and Simb but are part of his new independent project Mishka.
With these rendering, I am more than ready to watch Mushka. This pencil color drawing is beautiful and tells a story!
Cool Disney fact: Andreas Deja left his signature on a wall at the entrance of the exhibit!
