I was invited by Disney to D23 Expo to facilitate our review.
I just can’t believe it has been two months since our epic trip to the D23 Expo. Yes, I am still on a Disney high from all the magic we encountered. From live action movies, what is in store for animation and Disney-Pixar plus witnessing new Disney legends ceremony and exploring all things D23 Expo, there are still a couple of things to share with you. Stay tuned for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Right now, let’s talk about the Roaring Lion King Panel at D23 Expo and Six The Lion King Fun Facts.
A Roaring Lion King Panel at D23 Expo
During the live action movie panel Jon Favreau came on stage to tell us he is working on the film. He shared with us the opening scene and whoa, all the goosebumps! But then at the Lion King panel, as we relived together the experience of special moments of the animation movie it was, surprise after goosebumps after wow moments!
Six The Lion King Fun Facts
Looking back at what made The Lion King so special, the panel opened to amazing talent sharing fun facts and reliving special moments on stage. Here are the fun facts that caught my heart:
The Lion King Setting Precedent Fun Fact:
Pumba was the first Disney character to have gas! On another note, The Lion King is the highest grossing hand-drawn animated film of all time!
The Lion King Celebrity Meltdown Fun Fact:
Sir Elton John was not happy that the romantic song he wrote for the film was sung by “a stinking warhog”
The Lion King Creation Fun Fact:
It was difficult getting talent to work on this film because the heavy hitters were all working on Pocahontas. The code name for this movie was “King of the Jungle” and the crew referred to it as “Bambi in Africa”
The Lion King Animator Fact:
During the panel, we discovered that animators can be as temperamental as actors. Not related, but Animator Mark Henn who animated many Disney princesses was happy to take over the young Simba project as a way to switching up or breaking away from working on princesses.
The Lion King Production Fun Fact:
Earthquake and fires in southern California delayed production of the movie. The Simba production unit was based in Florida.
The Lion King Talent:
Ernie Savella and Nathan Lane originally auditioned to be Hyenas and were cast as Timon and Pumba. It was Nathan Lane’s idea to dress and show Timon doing the hula. Both actors did their recording together in the booth which was the first time ever this was done. When asked how she got involved in the project, Whoppi Goldberg says she begged to be in it!

Oh wow! What a nostalgic feeling. I can still remember we watch this in the cinema with my family. Too young yet I remember this because its the very first movie I saw in the cinema. Definitely memorable for me.
I can only imagine how awesome that would have been to see the voice actors for Timon and Pumba working together to do the voices for the characters. Although anything with Nathan lane would be absolutely amazing I think.
