I am a self-declared beach bum. Most days after 4 pm in the summertime you will find me lounging, shelling or admiring a beautiful sunset on the beach. This month, I am enlisting the help of my friends to clean up a beach and help sick kids and their families. A win-win activity that should bring plenty of smiles to everyone involved. It is time to Four Easy Steps to Create a Fundraiser: Help Others And Feed Your Passion.
Make a Difference. It is Easy.
As a mother, I can’t imagine having a sick child and having to stay away because I simply can’t afford it. Family charities are important to me because I want to make a difference for families who are desperately working towards getting their very sick children healthy. Inspired by the Ronald McDonald Foundation (RMHC) I am off to help sick kids and their families.
To fundraise for these families, I created my event: Sending Happy Beach Vibes to Sick Children. Here is how I did it:
Easy Steps to Create a Fundraiser
In four easy steps we created a fundraiser in no time. Here is how we set out for our Sending Happy Beach Vibes to Sick Children Event
To create the fundraiser, I ran through this list:
- Choose my event theme, date and start a fundraiser at rmhc.org/RaiseLove.
- Send out invitations to friends to meet at our favorite beach for a cleanup. A donation of $5 per participating family is suggested.
- Purchase sunscreen, latex gloves, and garbage bags for waste collection.
- Purchase and prepare drinks and food to share once we are done.
After our successful gathering, we are proud to say that 20 bags of garbage later, we collected a total of $80 for the RMHC and cleaned half a mile of beach!
Like a Grain of Sand. It all makes a difference
I know that our fundraising result is not astronomical. It every bit helps. We had a great time together working for the environment and taught the kids about the importance of helping others and our environment in the process. We decided to make this a monthly affair. Invites for our October event are going out again next week!
Help Others And Feed Your Passion.
Did you know that in 2016, the Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room programs (RMHC) provided 2.4 million overnight stays to families? And in doing so gave the ability to spend more time with their sick children, to interact with their doctors, and to make important decisions about their children’s care?I paired my beach passion with my will to help out families and came up with a fun event to do both. The result is a clean beach plus a donation to the RMH which provides places for families with sick children to stay just steps from the hospitals where they are receiving critical medical care.
This is your invitation to do the same. Use your passion to help others out!
What will your fundraising event for sick kids and their families be like?

Over the years I have helped with many fund raisers. Can be simple or big production. Your advice is very helpful.
These are great ideas. I’ve never headed up my own fundraiser before, and honestly wouldn’t have even thought about what the first step would be. I hope that I’m never in a situation where I need my own fundraiser.
These are some amazing ideas to help people put together a fund raiser, I have to admit I personally wouldn’t know where to start but have in the past fancied helping with them so now I can!
I know the Ronald McDonald House does a lot of sick children and their families! They have even helped a few people I know personally. Organizing a fundraiser on their behalf sounds like a fantastic way to give back and spread awareness.
I love this idea. I had a friend who used her wedding to raise funds for Sr. Jude’s in lieu of presents. Every little bit helps.
That’s such a cool event that you organized. The Ronald McDonald House is an amazing charity that does so much for families – one of our faves to donate to!
I hosted some fundraising events for the school last year. We hosted a fun run event for the kids that turned out really awesome!
I had no idea that you could create a fundraiser so easily, I know there are many places and families I want to help. This helped give me the idea to actually do something about it and soon, thank you!
Cleaning up the beach is an awesome idea!
It’s awesome that you were able to raise so much and improve the beach! It would be great for more people to get involved this way.
This is great information. Things like this give me anxiety, I feel such pressure to do fundraisers. Every penny counts.
We donate to a lot of fundraisers this time of year. Most benefit our local schools and charities we love. We’re always glad to help.
I think what Ronald Mcdonald House charities do such an amazing thing! I am so glad people are raising money to help them!
Thanks for taking the initiaitive to start a fundraiser for families of sick children. It is so heartwarming to know you’ve done a big part n helping make others’ lives a little better. Hope your tribe increases!
Thanks a lot for these tips. We are doing a fundraiser for our son’s football this season and this tips help a lot. Fundraising is a lot of work but fun and fulfilling.
I believe everything little things helps and what a great initiative to raise funds!!
I have zero experience with planning a fundraiser and you make it look so simple with your tips. I was shocked to find out that some places charge parents to stay overnight when their children are sick. I just hate that because they are going through enough as it is then to have to figure out how to pay for daily living arrangements.
Using social media as platform in helping other people is indeed a good one. I love your initiative. Now I am still thinking of what and how to do mine.
Fund raisers are a great way to raise money for a cause. I’ve participated in many but I’ve never created one myself. Your steps make it seem less daunting so maybe I should try it.
