Tips and Tricks to Get All the Treats at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom
There is much to do and see at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. I didn’t have enough time to enjoy it all and still had a spooktacular time. Use my learnings and leave no treat untouched with these tips:
Dress up
Some costumes are very cool and creative. I enjoyed families that themed dressed together. A group of cousins took my prize for prince charming and the Disney girls! Everyone can dress up. Just be mindful of the rules which you can find here.
Be fashionably early
Well, you can be a lot more than fashionably early. The party officially starts at 7 pm but you can get in the park by 4 pm. Pace yourself because the party lasts until midnight. Younger ones might not make it to Cinderella time. Regular park visitors need to leave by 5 pm. So as the crowd heads out to enjoy the decorations, the retreat of the flag at Mainstreet, try to hit the rides at the back of the park or start lining up for Jack the Pumpkin King and Sally at liberty square where they will be starting at 5 pm. They are at the Thanks Patty for this photo opp tidbit! Don’t forget to get your party band once you clear the main gate. All partiers need this special band.
Trick-o-Treat but don’t overdo it
Cast members have plenty of trick-or-treating bags to hand out. Treat stops are located throughout the park and the cast members that hand out the candy are very generous. You can go from station to station as much as you want to. You can even go back as much as you want to for candy. Yes, the candy is good candy too. But, there is really no need for bags and bags of candy when you can do a little and enjoy so much more to the next point.
Cool mom tip: need an air-conditioned place to take a break? Stop at the theater of Mickey’s Philharmonic to rest your feet and enjoy a movie after you have been handed some candy!
Take advantage of short ride lines
Yes!!! this is the jackpot for us!!! The longest line wait was for the Mine Train, of course, and that was 30 minutes!!! Unheard of!!! In her wisdom, Sarah told us to make a bee line for the Haunted Mansion which naturally gets more attention during the party. The cast has extra creepiness to them and the horseless carriage photo opp also has a long cue.
Don’t forget the photo pass opportunities
Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party does have some awesome exclusive photo setups that you will want to take advantage of! The photos are super fun. Just let one of the many photographers at hand guide you and tell you how to pose of where to look.
Cool mom tip: if you have food allergies, there are stops marked on the map with stops just for you!
Character photo opportunities
It is so much fun to see the characters we love dressing up for Halloween. Even better, is striking a pose with them. Check the list for those you really can’t miss out on and head on over to the lines which can be long. Pick and choose. You will not be able to get them all. Keep in mind that not only are the characters dressed up in Halloween costumes, there are also some characters available only for this event. You will not catch them during regular park hours even if it is October 31rst, like our favorite Disney villains.
It is all about Hocus Pocus
The Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular does cast a spell on everyone in the park when the 3 sisters use their magic during a show of shadows and nightmares along with an appearance of Oogie Boogie. Be ready for a visually fun show filled with special effects. Be there 10 minutes early for a good front row view.
Shake it at the Monster Dance Party
Sully and Mike will lead the conga line and the shakedown over at the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball in Tomorrowland. Jump in and prepare to have a super scare time!
Happy HallowWishes Fireworks
The Happy HallowWishes fireworks are by far my favorite. Maybe it is because the Disney villain fun is not over as Maleficent, Ursula and even Jafar join in the party and get us singing along with their tunes set to creepy colors that light up the sky over Cinderella’s castle.
Cool mom tip: my favorite place to watch these fireworks display is near Belle’s castle.
You must see the “Boo to You” Parade
The 20-minute long parade opens with a headless horseman that sets the stage for Mickey and friends to come along on floats that feature Ralph and Vanellope from Wreck it Ralph, a cemetery, Jack Sparrow, and pirates and so much more. To the great Boo to You music, some zombies and undead couples will come dance with us for a not so scary parade that you can catch twice every night. The best place we found to watch the parade was on the actual street in front of the Walt and Mickey statue rotonda. The street gets closed off during the parade.
Cool mom tip: the first parade is generally more crowded and a great time for even shorter ride times, as we learned from Amy.
Monstrous Not So Scary Fun!
There is so very much to do! You certainly don’t have to do it all. Pace yourself and make sure you do what your family is most interested in doing. Like that you don’t worry about time creepings away from you….or aim at doing it all. Bottom line: have a plan, and let the Monstrous amount of Not So Scary fun take over! It truly is wicked amazing so, be prepared to close the park down because no one really wants to leave all the fun behind when it’s in full swing, muahhahahahaha.
Cool mom tip: relax before going to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Visit Disney Springs like a pro!
