It seems that everywhere we turn there is much talk of STEM and STEAM education and careers. I am very happy about it. Not only because I have a mathematician in my hands that is always interested in engineering, science and art all mixed in together, but also, because our world keeps moving forward and our kids need to keep up. The Inspiration for New Generation Careers will come from the needs of the world as they arise. But, I do believe we can turn to literature and movies for big hints of what is to come.
Inspiration for New Generation Careers
Many of the work choices that our kids will be able to choose from may not even exist today. Some others might take big changes in implementation or focus. Even from a decade or so ago, we could see the potential of robotics on everyday life in cartoons like the Jetsons. Some other innovative science advancements could seem to be only things that would exist in our imaginations, but it might be possible that we are looking at the face of the future! Take for example the scene in the trailer for the upcoming movie Pacific Rim: Uprising. We can see a very advanced use of the Visual Reality games and fun we experience today. The difference is that in the movie VR is used to protect humankind and fight monsters from another world. Hopefully, we won’t come to that, but this kind of possibility can make it safe to harness undiscovered elements from the core of the planet, example. I can totally see a huge advancement in aviation and engineering as well, don’t you?
About Pacific Rim Uprising
The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in Pacific Rim Uprising.
John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.
STEAM and STEM are not just catch phrases! What careers can you anticipate for the future?
