As if going to the Infinity War Red Carpet event in Los Angeles wasn’t enough these days to get my fangirl heart beating faster, I got to interview Winston Duke. He plays M’Baku in the very cool Black Panther Marvel movie. He was extremely nice and talked candidly about Infinity War, Black Panther, his MCU role and his family in the Caribbean. Here is our Exclusive Infinity War Interview with M’Baku-Winston Duke From Black Panther.
Exclusive Infinity War Interview with M’Baku-Winston Duke From Black Panther
As Winston Duke sat down for our interview, he told us it was his first time in Miami. A bit surprising to find out he doesn’t have any relatives in the Magic City being a native from Trinidad and Tobago! He was all smiles and was excited to have come from inspiring young dreamers at a local university. To start our exclusive interview I just had to plunge right into it. I asked him if Thanos would have to go searching for the soul stone in Wakanda. He replied that he has yet to watch the entire film. So, he doesn’t really know and if he did, he couldn’t share. He went in, did his part and walked out. This might just confirm the rumors that have been going around that none in the cast has read the full script of the movie!
On moving from Balck Panther to the universe of The Avengers
Duke tells us that with Black Panther they created a family where everyone was putting their best foot forward as we were building our own world. Now, going into The Avengers where everything is already built and they have their own team, it was refreshing to be welcomed into it, and have the feeling that they made sure there was a room for the Black Panther world.
Has Winston Duke’s life changed after Black Panther?
Catching up with his family in the Caribbean is a glimpse of this. His Uncle and his wife have never gone to the actual movies. Of course, they went out to the theater to see Black Panther. They actually went out as a community. The whole village went. Tales tell that his uncle in the middle of the movie is standing up and yelling “that’s my nephew!” and the rest of the audience would clap and cheer. They are extremely proud. It is humbling to him that his community that is not in any proximity to Hollywood is consuming and feel like they have an effect on what is coming out because a soon of their food, teachings, and whoopings is affecting some change at some level.
As for M’baku characteristics Duke would like to have?
Duke would like to step into more places of leadership in his life. While he is not looking to be as brazen as M’Baku is he is looking forward to live more freely in his power.
A Cosmic Scale Tale We Can’t Miss
I have to tell you Winston Duke is not only a gentleman but also very human. He shared how touched he is about his community’s reaction as well as invigorated by the way he realizes he is making a difference for young dreamers. On a final note, he did share that MCU is ten years of storytelling and we are all invested in it. To come out from being introduced to this and be weaved into a final story at a cosmic scale is going to be exciting. We should all get out tickets for April 27th!!! I am looking forward to seeing him at the Infinity War Red Carpet Premiere! Don’t forget to follow us, we will be sharing it all live!
