Disney invited me to walk the red carpet of Infinity War for the #InfinityWarEvent. All opinions shared are 100% my own, including the fangirl excitement.
If you watched any of the awesome Marvel movies, you have been touched by the work of an amazing latina executive who also is an extraordinary human being. Victoria Alonso, Marvel Studios’ EVP of Physical Production and Avengers: Infinity War Executive Producer sat down to talk to us while in Los Angeles for the Infinity War Premiere. We talked all things Marvel, her job, being a mom and balancing motherhood and career. Se was caring, strong, truthful and I felt as if she was already mentoring us to help us propel forward. ¡Una mujer increible! (an incredible woman) Our interview underlined the role of working moms. There is so much to juggle mix in and achieve. Our conversation pointed us to 6 Superhero Mantras For The Working Mom that serve as great reminders and motivators for all the supermoms out there.

Superhero Mantras For The Working Mom
Like all moms, my main objective is raising good citizens of the world that can contribute and make a difference. Yes, it would be wonderful if one day my kid holds a Nobel prize. But, more important to me is that this child fulfills his dreams while he can embrace and enhance the goodness of the world. As his example, I don’t need to be super mom, just the best mom I can be. To do that, I am taking to heart these Superhero Mantras For The Working Mom that were poignant reflections out of our interview with Victoria Alonso. You are going to totally relate to the Marvel catchphrases and mottos we have lined up for you fangirls! Ahora si 🙂 (let’s do this!)
“Cognitive Re-calibration… I hit you really hard in the head” Black Widow
It is all in how we choose to look at things. In the wise words of Victoria Alonso, “A challenge is something you can’t achieve, where a hurdle is something you just need to jump over and go. So, I like to change a little bit of the dynamic of how we teach ourselves… if you wanna get past it, that is a hurdle and not a challenge. Look at your challenges as day-to-day hurdles. A challenge is more of the things that you can’t get to. Perhaps the most difficult thing to achieve is balance and that is a work in progress.”. You’ve got this mom. Re-calibrate what you know to give both your goals and your family YOUR best path to reaching your dreams. No hay nada imposible. (there is nothing impossible).
“Like Christmas but with more….me”, “The Truth is I am Ironman” Tony Stark.
Not sure how to sit at the big table and lean in? Victoria Alonso sets us straight:”Be yourself. The strength is being who you are. Hands-down. That’s what makes you different. That’s what you bring to the table. Ojo (important). But when you go to that table, you sit at that table, not on the side, not behind. You sit at the table. And own it. That’s it” Don’t make an apology of being at the table, not even to yourself. “If I’m at the table, that means somebody decided I should be here. So, I am here.”. You are one amazing all around mom and this catchphrase applies both to career and family life.
“My Spider-senses are tingling” Spiderman.
Something that Ms. Alonso’s mom used to say to her stuck with me:”If it has been done, it can. And if it hasn’t been done, it should”. Listen to your instinct. Ask for what you need. Set your own boundaries. Don’t shy away from what you need or who you are. Many times moms forget about ourselves because parenting takes it all. Remember, you do not do less of a job because you are a mom. As a matter of fact, an intelligent employer will recognize that accommodating mothers gives in return dedicated, devoted grateful employees. Reach out and get what you need, because there is no doubt that you will go further and farther.

“Yeah same, Hulk like fire, Thor like Water” Hulk.
How do we empower our children and teach them integration, equality? Just show them. Show them that the world is better a world kinda together, but we’re different. And the one thing that unites us really is the love. For our family, for our partners, for our children, for our country, for whatever. Whatever is the love that you feel. It doesn’t divide us.
Hulk….Smash
As one of the three founding members of Marvel Studios, Victoria Alonso is one of the few women working in Hollywood that is not an actress. She has a hand in most everything that goes on in making a Marvel film. As a mom, she has changed her perspective a bit and now approaches production decisions with questions like: “is that stab necessary? Do we need to see all that blood? CAn we just stop punching? Because I am numb. I get that they are superheroes and they fight, but I am bored.” She loves the Marvel movies because they have heart and they have a message or ten. The bottom line for her is, how is she going to explain this at the playground. In doing this, she delivers the best influential storytelling ever. Don’t believe me? Let’s talk Black Panther which is hers too. 🙂 You can come in and be a changemaker.
Being The Avenger Mom
“I have some red in my ledger I want to wipe out” Black Widow.
So it is time to get rid of preconceptions, go for our goals, sit at the table and be the kick as mom you are. Don’t go by anyone’s definition. A conversation Victoria Alonso had with her daughter about wanting to be all you can be resonates and reminds us that the power is always within us: You got it down. Look, at you. You’re accomplishing already. The idea of getting out there and showing that you can is I think by far the most important thing” Dale mamá (go mom!)
Are you going to make more mistakes while using the superhero mantras for working moms? Sure thing. Even though we don’t have Dr. Stange’s time stone, ponder on Thor’s wisdom: ” I make grave mistakes all the time, everything seems to work out”. That is because moms fix it all and always know best. Follow your heart, and hug those kids tighter tonight!
