With summer upon us, no family member will be left behind for our vacation adventures. That is why we have put together this list of basic Tips To Take A Road Trip with Cats. You better believe our feline pet is coming with us!
Tips To Road Trips With Cats
Don’t have a catsitter this summer? No worries! If the joy of the open road calls your name, take your cat with you! It is very doable. All you have to do is prepare a bit before hitting the highway with these simple Tips on How To Take Road Trip With Cats. Keep reading because your vacation with Kitty is an experience you will not want to miss out on:
Home away from home
Our independent cats love their own private space. Give it to them with a cozy pet carrier with enough space for the size of your cat. The pet carrier will become home, so it is a good idea to get it well in advance to get your cat to get familiar with it and start making it it’s “castle” before you head out on vacation to reduce anxiety. The cat should be inside the carrier while you are driving for its safety. You don’t want it cuddling at your feet or bolting out the door when you stop at a rest area.
Cool mom tip: you might want to line the pet carrier with plastic and have a couple of towels handy to refresh easily the pet carrier.
Wander With a Leash
Another item to get used to before departing on your adventure is a leash. It will come in very handy during pit stops to stretch out, and litter change. Make sure your itinerary includes a few pit stops.
Keep it Clean
No one wants to be in a car for hours with unpleasant smells. Bring with you New Purina® TIDY CATS® Free & Clean™ Unscented Clumping Litter. You will thank me later. Because it is unscented, we tend to forget we are traveling with a litter. That is also a testament to its powerful odor control thanks to activated charcoal plus TidyLock® Protection to lock away odors. Nothing beats the clean you need free of the stuff you don’t (like dyes or unpleasing fragrances). Additionally, TIDY CATS Free and Clean makes for strong clumps that are easy and fast to clean up. Bonus points? It is also available in lightweight!
Bring Entertainment
Bring along new exciting toys for your cat.
Cool mom tip: You will love the one stop shop at Target where you can get fab toys, TIDY CATS Free and Clean cat litter, new bowls, pet carrier and leash all in one place
Microchip and Tag
Do not leave home with your cat unless it has been microchipped and has updated tags. You never know when it might get spooked and run away leash and all.

I won’t be taking any cat anywhere although, my son will be if we go for any road trips longer than a day which means I had better stock up on Tidy Cats Free and Clean, Unscented! I will be riding with the cat, not, the cat riding with me. She reins superior or so she acts.
these tips are all great for taking your pet along, thanks for sharing

We have traveled with the cat in the car in the past and to be honest, it was like hell! These tips will help for the next road trip!
This is a really fun idea. My cats hate the car though.
I would personally be very hesitant to recommend a leash for use with a cat while traveling unless the cat in question has been using the leash for some time without incident. If only because cats are experts at wiggling out of things, and a cat who gets away while away from home would be difficult to recover! Great travel tips for those with feline companions, though! Thank you for sharing.
This is a great read. I am going to be embarking on road trips with a dog now that we have a puppy and I imagine these tips will help for a puppy too. Thanks for sharing
We didn’t get to travel with our cat. She wants to stay home and wander and play around the house when we are out. But this tidy lock litter is better than our old brand. The odour control is not that good.
I have a 4 month old puppy and we will be taking him to the beach next month. These tips will apply very nicely for my dog.
