Is there Art Onboard The Disney Dream Cruise? I found that Visual Art Sails Onboard the Disney Dream Cruise! From the moment we set foot in the beautiful and spacious lobby of the Disney Dream I could not take my eyes off the cascading chandelier! It is mesmerizing and set for me a nod to art and an exquisite era of sailing that added to our magical voyage. It isnpired me to search around for more art on board.
We were invited to the sail away with Disney as part of the Disney Social Media Moms Conference.
Visual Art Sails Onboard the Disney Dream Cruise
I have to say my take is that the splendor of Art Deco discreetly takes over the Disney Dream. Of course, Disney magical whimsy is in every detail. That said, the Disney Dream is a floating art gallery that delights in every way.
Impressive Art Deco Chandelier
To begin, we do have to start with the striking and imposing central lobby chandelier. So, cast members told us that the customized Art Deco chandelier measures 23 feet in diameter and cascades almost 14 feet downwards. I was totally jealous to find out it is decorated with Swarovski crystals. And, it is covered with a 24-karat gold plating. Certainly, it is a very photogenic work of art. But, I had a hard time capturing all of its beauty and power. It is something you have to admire in person.
Bronze Central Piece
Surprisingly, ranked higher than captain Mickey, Admiral Donald is a five-foot bronze sculpture that sits atop a marble pedestal in the atrium lobby. Castmembers shared that it was inspired by the animated short Sea Scouts (1939)
Mosaic Murals
Did you miss the wonderful Finding Nemo mosaic murals outside Cabanas buffet restaurant on Deck11? Oh, you better book a Disney Dream cruise to admire them! I need a new booking because I admired them every day and forgot to get a photo of them! True to the nature of the artform, Italian artists handcrafted the 25 feet wide by 8 feet high murals. A cast member at guest services mentioned there were more than 150 thousand Venetian tiles in these mosaics.
Enchanted Art
On the Disney Magic, there are art pieces that come to life those are called “enchanted art” Usually they are found next to regular art pieces. I guess this is done to surprise bring about some extra magic to your gallery watching. Enchanted art is covered with an anti-glare finish so that you would never suspect you are looking at a screen. Those Imagineers are incredible! More than an artistic surprise, artistic art pieces are used as part of the fun offered by The Midship Detective Agency on deck 5. There, you can get a detective badge and a casebook (map of enchanted art). Using the badge guests activate the enchanted art that gives away clues. Make sure you play along. You can go at your own pace and it is a good game to play. There is always a Disney villain to be caught.
Reliefs, Motifs and so Much More
At every turn, there is really something that will mesmerize the senses. When I walked in the champagne lounge the 30’s came at me with the beautiful bar decor. The railing of the staircase, details of the cash register at the shop or down a hallway some of the many places you will stop and take in delightful images.
Animator’s Palate
Indeed, dinner time is also art time! While you enjoy coms contemporary Pacific Rim cuisine with an American flair, you get to see animation creation and storytelling in action. The restaurant’s decor is filled with everything you’d expect to find inside an actual animator’s studio. Character sketches, maquettes, light boxes, paint brushes, computer workstations in addition to other tools of the animation trade. I do encourage a visit to the restaurant when it is now serving meals, so you can take it all in.
The Performing Arts
Definitively, the floating art gallery of the Disney Dream is not just for fabulous visuals arts. The performing arts are a must see. Broadway has nothing on the shows onboard! As a matter of fact plenty of Broadway creators, choreographers, and all around artists make part of the teams that bring to live fantastic spectacles that are beyond magical. The Golden Mickeys and Beauty and the Beast were simply phenomenal and unforgettable!
Honestly, I love how at Disney, art is part of the magic. Had you ever stopped to think about your Disney cruise as a great art gallery before reading this post?
Oh, and regardless of which Disney cruise you go on, make sure you have your Fish Extender! Ours was the Disney
