6 Unique Destinations in California
This list is by no means exhaustive because there is so much more! Nevertheless, it is a great start for discovering unique destinations in California. A natural wonder, a quirky stop, a known spot or something off the beaten path, this list might get you packing your bags before you finish reading them all. In no particular order, here get ready to blow your kids minds’ away with these:
Forestiere underground garden
This man-made garden is over 100 years old. It is like an underground home that features subterranean courtyards, a fishing pond, and chapel that were designed to escape the summer heat. In Mediterranean style ambiance, you can enjoy producing trees and shrubs. Some of which are 90 years old! My son kept wondering how trees could grow with so much cold.
The Walt Disney Family Museum
Disneyland is not part of this unique California listing, But the Walt Disney Family Museum is. Sitting across from the Golden Gate and Alcatraz in San Francisco, the beautiful brick set of buildings that is this museum is a great way to take the kids through the life and work of Walt Disney. It also hosts one of a kind exhibitions temporary exhibitions like The Art of Pinocchio.
Joshua National Park:
About two hours away from LAX and less than one from Palm Beach you will be able to disconnect and enjoy fabulous unique nature here. Make sure you visit Skull Rock, Hidden Valley and Cholla Catus Garden. Great family hiking experiences await you.
Lucas Film HQ
Big and small movie buffs can go beyond Hollywood to visit the home of Star Wars and Ghostbusters to now but two. The Lucas Film HQ is located on a beautiful campus. You will hear echos of “May the force be with you” as Yoda greets you.
A quirky colorful spot in the middle of the desert near Niland that is a huge mountain that mixes of art and love of God. Recognized as national folk art treasure, this spot has plenty of great photo opportunities. Forewarning: there are no facilities on premises, in case your little ones might need to go.
Lassen Volcanic National Park
Here, the explorer and nature lover will love to learn about the geothermal activity or admire bubbling mud spots. Not surprisingly, there are great educational nature hikes for families that are quite affordable, interesting and different.
