I am in total awe of who Jasmine is in Disney’s Aladdin live action movie. True I am totally taken with her wardrobe and in particular with her earrings. But this Jasmine is much more that that. She is a force, a struggle, a daughter, and a leader that will win us all over in a nanosecond. What is Jasmine for Aladdin like in real life? Well, we sat down with Naomi Scott to find out!

Disney Aladdin Exclusive Interview with Princess Jasmine – Naomi Scott
Naomi Scott walked in the room as if we were all sitting in a friend’s living room. She was warm, inviting and eager to get to meet us. In a striking outfit that can be described as a full leotard covered by a purple tulle romper, she was fabulous.
Here is what she shared during our exclusive interview:
When casted, which scenes was she looking forward to shoot?
She was really excited about scenes at the beginning of the original movie when Jasmine meets suitors remembers how she fights back. In particular this quote rang strong for her “funny we have the same title but we are never described the same way”. Naomi Scott was ready to show that Jasmine is smart. She can dress someone down as she withholds herself but the bit of spice will be sprinkled.
Jasmine’s Evolution
After 27 years there is definitively a natural progression. Naomi Scott tells us that in the original movie Jasmine is fighting for the right to marry whoever she wants to. In this movie she is fighting injustice for everyone. Although she really is rightfully the next leader she doesn’t say she wants to lead. Instead, she displays leadership. In this movie, she is fighting for her people against injustice and freedom for everyone. It just makes it much more ambitious. And, she does it because she cares and knows that she has what it takes.
What do you say to those that love the original.
“If you love the original you love this movie. this has everything the original has . all the music you love and more. all the action you love and more. all of the dancing and more. it just pushes everything and visually it is so fun and funny. This movie has more depth, but it has everything the original has. It has something for everyone and it is cross-generational. ”
What does Naomi Scott hope people takeaway from Aladdin
Genie is trapped in a lamp, Aladdin is trapped wanting more, Jasmine is trapped in her palace so there are changes that need to be made. The takeaway, she would like to think, is the idea that strength comes out of struggle.
“As women, our feminine qualities usually are said that don’t mix with leadership and things like that and I actually think it is quite the opposite. Everything that makes us a woman understanding strength we have as women Leaders today need kindness,
I hope that we can all speak against injustice. Even if you don’t win. Just like in the song “Speechless” where she wins over over Hakim but not necessarily won it all. When you speak up there might be backlash but you may have opened a door for someone else.
There are lots of things in that song, so much. Also, she is angry, it is ok that she is angry”.
Did Naomi Scott Need to learn a skill to play Jasmine?
Unlike Mena, she did not learn a special skills for the movie.
Fun fact, Mena spent hours learning how to juggle and how to play the eude.
In the end his scene was changed to have Jasmine pick up the Eude.
“Mena Massoud was like what???!!! And I was, Hey, honey, you have all these new skills, if things don’t work out you can always fall back on that although I don’t think after this movie he has to worry about it.”
Talking Fashion
So you know from my movie review that I am all over Jasmine’s earrings. But frankly, her outfits are truly stunning. The color combinations speak to me and there is this dress that shimmers and is bliss to me. But what about Naomi Scott? Which is her favorite Jasmine outfit?
Favorite outfit is the dessert moon one. There was a song that is not in the movie, but the outfit is the same one that Jasmine is using when she is with Dalia waiting for Alladin and he doesn’t come.
Making a wish
If you have to rub the lamp, what would your first wish be? She thought about it for a bit, and said: to learn every language in the world. Why? …”because when you can connect with someone in their mother tongue you can connect at a deeper level – and also I can be nosey!!!”
