Is Aladdin Kid-Friendly?
Is Aladdin appropriate for children? First of all, before I give you my take on the movie, note that the movie is rated PG. As always we recommend taking the ratings with a grain of salt. Should you take your kids under 7 to watch the movie? Hopefully, we can give you some clarity on all the questions and bottom line we tell you, Is Aladdin Kid-Friendly with these points:
AcTION – VIOLENCE
Definitively, there is action. The cave of wonders can be intimidating and on an exit scene, it does show some violence. There are chases and Jafar does show his mean side. An ugly animal transformation that could be scary for the little ones.
LANGUAGE AND GESTURES
None that I caught. I felt it was a very clean movie in this respect.
I did not see offensive gestures or any sexual content. There are a couple of mid-rift costumes but quite frankly I was expecting to see more, especially for Jasmine.
Love is in the air in this movie and kisses will be on the screen along with some batting eyes and light flirting. They are not passionate kisses.
As a matter of fact, there are a couple of emotional and action thrilling moments that could be intense for the smaller ones. At some point, there is a feeling of impending doom that you might want to be on the lookout for with the more sensitive ones in your party.
THE STRANGE THINGS
Evidently, A genie, magic, and sorcery are part of the story as you know. Nothing over the top to worry about.
Agrabah does not feature any, but the movie itself with its CGI will mesmerize you.
LENGTH OF THE MOVIE
Admittedly, is a bit long for the younger ones, so watch that drink intake. As much as you know the story of Aladdin, you will not want to miss a single colorful scene.
Is Aladdin Appropriate for Children? WATCHING Aladdin WITH KIDS UNDER 7
Is Aladdin Kid-Friendly? I say yes. Simply, just be watchful to the more sensitive ones. Additionally, be ready to explain reality and magic. Other than that, I say your entire family is in for an amazing treat. Finally, screen the movie before for kids under 5, though.
Disney Aladdin Live -Action Review
It took me a bit to get into a blue Will Smith. To me, his start was slow and I am glad I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He ended the movie solid and did allow in his personality to come through. In the end, he did “faboulize” Genie.
The Oil Lamp Trophy Awards of Sorts
Honestly, as much as I tried to start comparing the live-action to the classic movie, before long I was immersed in the movie. I have to say I can’t get over the vibrant colors, scenery, and outfits. Certainly, there are many cool details all over this movie! The story was told beautifully and somehow the story itself felt updated to me.
If fact, the dance scenes are incredible and I will say I was hoping for more of them. That said, it does not feel like a Bollywood movie at all but it can take you there a bit. By the way, this reminds me, diversity is all over the place and integrated in a beautiful way. Both, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott (Aladdin and Jasmine) were incredible and brought the story to life incredibly. In particular, I was blown away by Naomi Scott’s powerful performance. But more on that later. Do come back to read my take on Jasmine.
For now, I will say, I want all her earrings!!!
In the end, we left the theater happy and looking for the words to the “Speechless” song. Now, I wish I could find Agrabah on the map and visit it….. next stop Epcot’s Morocco!
