About The Bravest Knight
The new series is breaking boundaries, featuring a household with two dads (Sir Cedric and Prince Andrew), making it one of the first children’s television series with an openly gay main character. Following the inspiring and perseverant former pumpkin farmer, Sir Cedric, now grown and married to the prince of his dreams, The Bravest Knight recounts personal tales of his journey. Sir Cedric shares his story with his adopted 10-year-old daughter Nia, on how he transformed from day-time farmer to full-fledged knight. Nia, who is training to become a brave knight herself, learns important values such as honor, justice and compassion; proving that knighthood is much more than slaying dragons.
Exclusive Interview with The Bravest Knight Cast
Our questions were for both T.R. Knight who voices “Sir Cedric,” and Storm Reid the Not-Yet-Knight “Nia”. The kid series show is set to premiere this June 21rst.
What is all the excitement about The Bravest Knight?
Not only is the series very close to the book it is based on (children’s book by Daniel Errico “The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived,”), but it is also the first time ever that animation features a story that has a family with two dads and an adopted daughter, as T.R. Knight stated. He goes on to share that he is in awe of the opportunity to work on this project. As a matter of fact, he has been wanting to work in animation for quite some time. This series is amazing to him because while staying as close as possible to the book, the imagination of it truly comes to life on screen. All the big topics from the book are covered, and T.R. would love to explore more social issue with it in the near future.
A Message of Diversity and Tolerance
Both T.R. and Storm agreed that it is difficult for people to relate when they are not represented. Growing up, it is the feeling they both had when watching TV and movies. And so, it is their hope that this series helps open hearts and minds as well as show that inclusion is the way of today. You will find lessons on love, friendship, bravery, and tolerance.
What the Show is Really About
First, T.R. underlines that the show is about love. Then, he shares that it is all about a girl who is working hard to become a knight. Her parents are there to support her and in teaching her, sometimes, end up trying to keep up with her.
The Takeaway For Everyone Who Watches
First and foremost, Storm hopes that the biggest takeaway for those watching is “to be comfortable in your own skin”. She adds: “Don’t let the fear of trying or taking risks stop you”.
A New Show For Today’s World
After watching a few episodes with the kids I can tell you that they totally love it. They have tons of fun watching it and do get the lessons easily.
As a parent, I appreciate being able to share with them a show that not only is up to speed with the world we live in. I am talking in terms of family representation. As I have often said in this blog, getting to know each other is the starting point to appreciate our values and traditions. In doing so, we build a bridge of understanding that truly builds peace. It is so important to remember that love, tolerance, and respect make for a better today and an even better tomorrow. So, if you can’t travel to learn about a new culture, turn your Hulu on to learn or remember core values that we need to keep alive today.
