Olaf is the best. My favorite from the entire Frozen franchise is Olaf’s Frozen Adventure. Additionally, there is no doubt in my mind that Josh Gad and Olaf carry Frozen 2. This is why I am over the moon to have had the opportunity for a Frozen 2 Josh Gad Exclusive Interview on Olaf and Frozen 2. Yes, it is true that the adorable snowman is not at the center of the story. But this tale would not be without the snuggly love and ray of hope that he brings.
Why Olaf is The Best
Hugs, laughs, and adventure. You get it all with Olaf! And now, his loveable funny self steals the show and our hearts yet again. To top it off, you get him asking the questions that littles are probably pondering or already asking parents. On his Frozen 2 journey, he is amazing at charades. Plus, he makes big statements for a little guy: “This forest is a place of transformation. I have no idea what it means but I can’t wait to see what it does to each of us”. Be on the look out for a fabulous little summary Olaf does about Frozen and the journey the friends are set on for Frozen 2
What is new for Olaf
Olaf continues to steal scene after scene. He also has a wonderful new song about he doesn’t understand what is going on, but guesses it is part of him growing up. The Song is “When I Am Older” –
“This will all make sense when I am older.
Some day I will see that this makes sense.
One day when I’m old and wise.
I’ll look back and realize that these were all completely normal events.”
Consequently, now that he is growing, Olaf is more mature. We can see it in everything he does and asks. One of his questions is: “How do you guys cope with the ever-increasing complexity of thought that comes with maturity?” You can almost see the wheels turning in his head.
The sweet snowman is soaking in the world around him. He is excited and shares his knowledge, like: “gorillas burp when they are happy”. Be on the lookout for all the random facts that come at you in the film.
Additionally, thanks to Elsa, he now wears a special permafrost and it just enhances his cuteness.
Frozen 2 Josh Gad Exclusive Interview
During my Frozen 2, World Wide Premiere experience enjoyed listening first hand from all the talent in the movie. Josh Gad and Kristen Bell wrapped the room (and me) around their fingers with their comments and on-point answers. As you can imagine, I was too excited to be truly ready for my Frozen 2 Josh Gad Exclusive Interview. A conversation with the Olaf actor was about to happen. I was ready for all the (mental) warm hugs. Time to talk to Olaf and the great talent who brought him to life. Total fan girl moment.
Who is Samantha? Who is Gayle?
Just a random. they handed me that scene of me essentially just looking for Elsa and Anna in the middle of the woods and I improv the name Samantha and then started laughing. The lesson he learned in the first Frozen is the more insane something I say like oh, look I got impaled, the more likely it is to end up in the film.
Olaf in Spanish
Naturally, I was all smiles when I got the Colombian connection. What am I talking about? Well, if Olaf grew up in South Florida, and his dad lives in Colombia (yes I am taking the creative liberty of giving Olaf parents) this is how he orders his favorite food:
Give Olaf all the chicken rice and croquetas and put it on my tab, pronto!!! Per-fec-tion people!!! I have to share that the moment I mentioned Colombia he was all smiles. Day made. By the way, if you want to find out if Frozen is kid-friendly, you can here in Spanish – Es Frozen 2 Apropiado para Niños.
The powerful messages of Frozen Songs
Into the Unknown is immediately infectious like Let is Go is not only musically so beautiful and unexpected but the message behind it is so important. The message is that each of us has a message calling us or pulling us into something challenging and sometimes we work against it. It feels so relatable to so many people. I know I wake up in the morning singing this dam song and I fear everyone is going to enjoy this song.
Josh Gad In Awe Of Olaf’s Optimism.
I asked Josh Gad which Olaf trait he would love for his daughters to pick up. He answered saying:” The trait I am most proud of is this glass is half full attitude, this sense of optimism. We live in such a cynical world and to always have such an optimistic outlook on life is something that I think we can all benefit from. So I think that perspective is a valuable lesson.”
Why Olaf’s Growing up important
The film is maturing with its audience. After the first one, where is everyone at now? Furthermore, kids that are fans are now entering their teens. So, the hope is that the film grows up with the audience. Right from the start, we see Olaf has grown up. Therefore, he is inquisitive and has learned to read! Olaf is sporting his new permafrost and is understanding the importance of change.

In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) and Olaf (voice of Josh Gad) venture far from Arendelle in a dangerous but remarkable journey to help Elsa find answers about the past. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019. ©2019 Disney. Josh Gad on Olaf Growing up
Josh Gad explains with a story of his daughter Ava when she was five: “One day we’re sitting at the table and she was laughing. And all of a sudden tears started streaming down her face, and she looked at me and my wife and she goes, ‘What if I don’t want to grow up?’ And she started crying,” Gad said. “It was so unbelievable because I think we’ve all had that experience as kids but it’s so traumatic we just forget about it … But that is the way I feel about Olaf in this movie. In the first movie, (Olaf)was this innocent ball of naivete who was willing to basically go out into the summer sun because he didn’t know any better and embrace it.
Olaf’s Journey
And in this movie, he’s almost gone from toddler to fully-grown child, where now he’s starting to ask those questions that don’t always have easy answers. And both from a comedic perspective it gave me so much to play with. But more importantly from an emotional arc, it was such a beautiful journey of, you know, that moment in life when you start to realize that maybe the world isn’t just raindrops and lollipops and roses, whatever that lyric is. But that is such a beautiful thing to play.”
Frozen 2 Pushes Boundaries
When Frozen came out, they all went in with no expectations. Today, they are all bitting their nails because there is nothing but expectations. They are hoping not to embarrass themselves and that people everywhere embrace the film that has taken them 3 years to work on. Josh Gad tells us:” I couldn’t be more proud of this movie. Not only what has been accomplished in terms of story and pushing the boundaries of animations But I take pride in the fact that they create a sequel to a musical and never broke a sweat.
Is Josh Gad Olaf Forever?
Just like everyone said how amazing Rob Williams was as the Genie in Aladdin, here came Will Smith and made the role his own. How does he feel about that happening with Olaf? Josh Gad is sure that it will happen. One day when there is a Frozen live-action, someone else will be an amazing Olaf and he will cry that day. He knows he will be replaced that day. I will be crying with you, Josh Gad. I am right there with you.
About Frozen 2
Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®- winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.
