Road trips can make some of the happiest of memories, not just the final location but also the restaurants, nature reserves, beaches, and places you visit along the way! First and foremost, make sure your car is up to date with services and educate yourself on legal requirements for safe travel, for example, ‘will I go to jail if I fail my interlock?’
Food
Be sure to pack plenty of your child’s favorite snacks, and enough to keep you going the entire
journey! We all know how much more children eat when they’re bored! Preferably pack snacks that
aren’t sticky and messy, as crumbs can quickly be hoovered up, but you don’t want to be dealing
with sticky hands.
Music
This is a must-have! Whether it’s their favorite movie soundtrack or nursery rhymes, this is a sure-
fire way of keeping them happy for a while. Make sure to dance along in the front too to help keep
your little ones entertained!
A deck of cards
This may sound crazy, but give your toddler a full pack of cards and let them go wild! It doesn’t
matter if they get bent, go missing or end up all over the car, by giving them something they don’t
usually have, they can be entertained for so much longer!
Brand new toys
While picking up all your other necessities for the journey, pick up a couple of cheap new toys for
your child. We all know the most your child plays with a toy is when they first get it brand new!
Please don’t spend a fortune in case they end up broken or not as exciting as you hoped.
Books
These can be their favorite board books or any old magazines you have lying around! Keep these
close to hand, so they’re easily accessible when your little one needs more entertaining.
Audiobooks
Children can understand a higher level when listening to a story compared to reading, so don’t be
afraid to give this a go! Apps like Audible have a variety of children’s books read with incredible tone
aimed at younger audiences.
A Scavenger hunt
Consider printing out a list (photographs or words depending on your child’s age) of items for them
to hunt for during the journey! Prepare your file with certain buildings you might know you’re
driving past, colored flowers, and even fields of animals. This game is sure to give you hours of quiet
time!
Technology
If worse comes to worst and they’ve exhausted all other forms of fun, don’t be afraid to turn to your
trusty iPad for entertainment. Make sure to download their favorite films, so you’re not relying on
an excellent signal to stream.
Sticker Books
Brilliant for all ages, sticker books are a lovely way for children to be creative on the move with
minimal mess. Hunt down sticker books of their favorite cartoon characters or book series for extra
entertainment!
