There are many Positive and Uplifting Mulan Moments to enjoy. I really can’t get enough of the movie. I will say it again: Mulan is the best Disney production to date in my opinion. The photography really has stolen my heart. Despite the movie being such an internal plight for Mulan, there is a lot of positive messages, and positive moments that we need to talk about.
Positive and Uplifting Mulan Messages
After my 5th time watching Mulan, I am as mesmerized. Yes, it is increasingly difficult to decide which is my favorite scene. And, I can’t help but admire more the details of everything. In the end, I always end up with such a good feeling from watching the movie. Granted, it is the collection of it all that makes it so. That, makes it had to choose my favorite part. Nevertheless, I can pick out lots of positive moments. Here are Positive and Uplifting Mulan Messages that speak the most to me.
Feminism and Traditional Women Roles
Mulan shows from the start that she does not precisely fall into what is expected of her as a woman. Early on she makes her father proud when saving a chicken. But, her actions are not approved by her society. Indeed, Mulan definitively has girl power. But, I appreciate how it portrays traditional women stereotypes. I believe this is important because, despite the seeming evolution of women’s equality, there are many who have not experience much of it. This, then becomes inspiring and motivational.
Stand up for what you believe in
Loyal, brave, and true. There are many ways in which Mulan shows us that we need to stand up for what we believe in. She faces her truth and follows her path despite the consequences. After all her ups and downs, she is the heroine of the film.
“You told me my journey was impossible. Yet here I stand, proof that there is a place for people like us.”
When you follow your heart, you will also find your path.
You always have someone in your corner.
This quote is everything
“If you had such a daughter with Chi, the boundless energy of life itself speaking through her every motion, could you tell her that only a son could wield Chi? That a daughter would risk shame, dishonor, exile? Ancestors, I could not.” – Hua Zhou
And if you look closely, Mulan has many cheering her on, or by her side. We are never alone. An example, is when her fellow warriors claim: ” you would believe Hua Jing, why won’t you believe Hua Mulan?”
Cheer for the bad Witch
“I was a girl like you when people turned on me,” she says to Mulan. “You don’t think I longed for a noble path? … The more power I showed, the more I was crushed, just like you. You saved them today and still they turned on you. … We will be stronger together.”
Xian Lang is the witch in the live-action movie. She has her own plight. You can’t help but feel for her and try to understand her. She does relate to Mulan and you will be uplifted by her sacrifice. I won’t tell you more because it is a spoiler.
Devotion to Family
One of the biggest features of the film, for me, is the fact that central to it all is family for Mulan. Yes, she is out there to discover herself. She is also trying to prove herself. But, the core of it all is her family, her father.
So Much To Enjoy With Mulan
Granted, feminists will not appreciate the story. But, I believe we need to understand the era in which it is set. In my Mulan movie review, I told you how much I loved the movie and why. I am still stuck at the breathtaking photography. The storytelling is not far behind. All in all, this is the best production yet!
