Cast, Director and Producer Jingle Jangle Exclusive Interview. Yes, Jingle Jangle is coming, and you should get excited. This is a Netflix movie that we all need this holiday season. It is colorful, vibrant and will leave you uplifted. It took 20 years to make this movie a reality and it certaintly does not dissapoint. The musical delivers powerful messages, and we spoke to husband and wife team, director David Talbert and Executive Producer Lyn Sisson-Talber about the movie. Here is our full conversation.
Hot Chocolate Happy Hour with Lyn Sisson-Talbert
Before our interview, we had the pleasure of meeting Lyn Sisson for a Hot Chocolate Jingle Jangle Happy Hour. That was not only a lot of fun. It also gave us an opportunity to pick her brain beforehand. And so, I jumped at the chance. I noticed that the film subtly points our math and science. Particularly, I was drawn to the fact that a girl was so comfortable in her own skin, loving science. As a matter of fact, the biggest musical hit of the movie is the song ” The Square Root of Possible is Me!” Lyn was impressed that I caught that. She shared that for them it was important to tell kids that math and science are fun. Moreover, STEM applies to many different things, including toy making. And so, it is their way of encouraging everyone to embrace STEM.
David E. Talbert and Lyn Sisson-Talbert Jingle Jangle Exclusive Interview
I can’t tell you what a wonderful interview this was. As much as this team touched us with their movie, they were moved to share about their project. Their enthusiasm and passion simply exuded. I am grateful that they were willing to share as much as they did. I mean, this was the second time in less than a week that I got to get insights into the film!
Movie Set
Now that I had my STEM answer in the bag, I was all about props and gadgets in the movie. You will see that the sets are all rich with contraptions and decor pieces. Director David Talbert told us that Buddy 3000, the adorable robot in the movie was his favorite. Not only is it a nod to math and science. It is also, a personal homage to his grandmother and to his son. So, very touching! There was much more shared during our interview.
Easter Eggs
Also, Mr. Talbert shared about Easter Eggs that are to be found in the film. In particular, as a big Marvel fangirl, I was all smiles at their nod to Wakanda. But, there is so much more. A glimpse of what to look out for is
“All of the names of the buildings are named after African American inventors and innovators. One is Sisson Arms, that’s Lyn’s father who is the first Black optometrist in Las Vegas. You have Tharpe’s Music, that’s Sister Rosetta Tharpe who is considered the Godmother of Rock and Roll. You have A.M. Woods, which is on the corner, that’s my Great Grandmother who was the invention of heart for me and love.” Again, math and science people! Here is the full conversation for you:
Jingle Jangle Cast Interview
Next, we spoke to Madalen Mills (Journey), Kieron Dyer (Edison), and Lisa Davina Phillip (Ms. Johnston). Ms. Johnston is a strong lady that knows what she wants. Lisa delivers the humor lines in the movie and she does capture the screen with her opening musical scene. Madelen definitely steals the show and Kieron is fantastic. Did you know it is his first time acting? During our cool Hot Chocolate Happy Hour, Lyn had shared a fun fact: Kieron did his audition as his birthday present to himself!
Last-Minute Ideas
It does seem as everyone had a great time on set. The cast told us how the director would whisper ideas to try for the scene. Their counterparts would not be a part of the whispers and their genuine reactions to the changes were included in the film.
Favorite Song
Wondering what everyone’s fave song is? Well, This day is Lisa’s and Kieron’s favorite song. They said it is because it delivers so much hope. For Madelen it is Make it Work.
The Takeaway
The cast hopes the takeaway for those that watch the film is for Kieran is that we can turn a negative situation into a positive one. Madelen agreed and added that it is okay to just be yourself.
