Are you going to watch a beloved classic children’s book come to life on Disney Plus? All these questions and more answered in our Flora and Ulysses Movie Review and Parent Guide
Flora and Ulysses Movie Parent Guide
So the Flora and Ulysses movie is rated PG. The rating focusses on some mild action and thematic elements. What should parents be aware off before watching? Here is our accustomed run down of topics:
Action
There is some action. Mainly, done for comedic purposes. And with a superhero squirrel you can bet some havoc is going to happen. After all donuts will fly!
Violence
For the most part, violence is used for slap stick and cartoon humor. That humor, features CGI images of animals “attacking” humans. Also, there is an instance where a human punches an animal. Nonetheless, tranquilizer guns are used on humans and animals alike. Everything is over the top. No worries, there is no blood or yucky stuff.
Language
I didn’t catch any language to report on. Except for dang it!. As a matter of fact, if you guys watch Pixar’s Soul, you are totally safe here. Holy Bugumba! That is a fun little phrase that Flora uses and you will hear it a few times in the movie.
Intense Moments
Because, we have the “violence” I described earlier, the more sensitive kids will not like what seems like, animals being harmed.
Adult Topics
Flora’s parents are divorced or separated. Of course, her parents are sad and struggling. And, dad (played by Ben Schwartz) is not having such a great time at his job.
Flora and Ulysses Movie Review
Personally, I love that comics are referenced throughout the movie. In particular, IronMan and Endgame get a shout out. You are going to love all the Easter Eggs in this film. No, it is not only about Marvel. Indeed there are references to Duck Tales, and other Kate DiCamilo books Yes, the movie is somewhat predictable, but it does have fun twists and special moments. The best part of it all is that while the kids will have a blast, parents will enjoy watching the film too.
Ulysses Powers Up the Screen
Honestly, Matilda who play Flora, does a phenomenal job when you see her with the squirrel. Do does Dany, the “villain” of the film. The CGI portions are beautifully done and no one will doubt the super powers of Ulysses! Much less of his cute heartwarming scene steals. Yes, that too, he does steal food, hungry little furry thing!
The Superheroes
Adorable and powerful as he is, there really is more than one superhero. Yes, it is not only Ulysses, the squirrel. As a matter of fact you will see that all the characters rise up to the occasion. I won’t say more because I want to stay away from spoilers. It might seem like Ulysses is there to help Flora, but everyone pulls together with love and hope
Laugh out Loud
There are plenty of details that will make you smile in this movie. More than that, get ready for funny awkward moments and silly jokes that will make you chuckle. Overall, you will be laughing hard from start to finish. The cast does not relent on delivering perfect puns and physical comedy.
What you can expect overall.
I call it a perfect feel-good movie for the entire family.
Expect, a sweet story is the perfect balance of comedy, pop culture references, family, friendships, fun action, and hope. The acting is on point and fun fact, the more is way more likable than in the book. No, she is not smoking, she is all about lollypops now.
Like author Kate DiCamilo shared during our interview, the Disney movie is even better than the book! It is an adorable film that is a joy to watch as a family. Cute and with plenty of “not in your face” awww moments. You should totally get the free Flora and Ulysses activity sheets to get ready for its debut on Disney+ February 19th!
